SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Convoy Street already seems like its own neighborhood to many, always bustling with locals at its numerous Asian restaurants and shops.Thursday, community business leaders continued their efforts to put Convoy Street firmly on San Diego's map with a live mural painting art show.The mural, created by local artist Espa?a Garcia Feucht, covers the side of Cross Street Chicken and Beer and was painted live in tandem with Taiko drummers playing and other artists showcasing their work outside the restaurant. "I truly believe that Convoy is big enough to have it's own neighborhood arch."The mural features a rooster holding a beer (a tip of the hat to the region's craft beer scene and the restaurant the mural sits on) with the phrase "made in San Diego" underneath. The announcement was made on Instagram and the closures take effect Sunday, March 15. “On behalf of our staff and community and in the interest of keeping our city safe, we are temporarily suspending our operations,” Malarkey said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Carlsbad leaders this week approved nearly 0,000 to construct a new trail planned to loop around the city's strawberry fields.Carlsbad City Council voted to add the Hub Park trail to the city's Capital Improvement Program, a 2.4-mile trail on the south shore of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon in an area dubbed "Hub Park."Hub Park sits on land owned by SDG&E. The city has a lease agreement with SDG&E for a portion of the trail, but not the portion that would connect to nearby roads.RELATED: San Diego County park rangers recommend these trails in 2019The city voted to take 4,500 from the General Capital Construction Fund to fund building the eight-foot wide trail.The trail would lead from a new Interstate 5 bridge to a bluff within the leased property that overlooks the lagoon, the city says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As winter approaches, doctors are worried about more than the novel coronavirus."When winter comes we all tend to go indoors, and [viruses are] more likely to spread between us in school, in workplaces it's just going to happen," Dr. Davey Smith, Chief of Infectious Diseases at UC San Diego, said.If you develop a cough, fever, chills and you're achy, Dr. Smith said it could be a variety of viruses."We are going to have multiple viruses running around in the community at the same time. Double triple, it's not just the flu it's RSV that kids oftentimes get, adenoviruses and other seasonal viruses and they all look the same," he said.Dr. Smith is urging San Diegans to get a flu shot, especially this year, concerned about the hospital being overrun, "it's not just the PPE, it's the hospital beds, the doctors and the nurses, and everybody who has to take care of them."Cajon Valley Union School District has had students on campus since July. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County health officials say they are taking aggressive measures to contain a flu outbreak at San Diego's migrant shelter. At least 16 migrants have shown flu-like symptoms; all were recently flown to San Diego from Texas by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement.Three migrants tested positive with a rapid influenza test."In order to take steps to prevent the spread of the disease we've become more aggressive in treating everyone with symptoms, regardless of when those symptoms started," said Dr. Dean Sidelinger, Deputy Public Health Officer for the County.RELATED: Flu outbreak sickens over 30 migrants at border centerBefore being admitted to the shelter, migrants undergo medical screenings.Migrants with flu-like symptoms are being isolated off-site in hotel rooms, along with their family members who are receiving preventative medicine.On Thursday, County Supervisors Dianne Jacob and Nathan Fletcher expressed their continued frustration with the federal government's handling of the migrant crisis. "Had we not taken these steps these migrant families would have been released by ICE at bus stops or transit centers without the medical screenings, without the treatment, without the attention, and without the help and support that we have provided. This could have proved disastrous for our region," said Fletcher. Fletcher says while they don't know how many people may develop flu-like symptoms in the days and weeks ahead, they are actively monitoring the population.
