LOS ANGELES (AP) — National Guard troops will be pulled out of California cities, including San Diego, where they’ve been deployed for a week after rampant violence and theft marred the first days of protests over the death of George Floyd. The announcement comes as peaceful demonstrations again emerged across the state. In San Diego County, about 100 National Guard troops had been stationed in La Mesa while another 100 were in an undisclosed area ready to move anywhere in the county. San Diego Sheriff Bill Gore requested the troops to assist with security following looting and rioting in La Mesa last weekend.RELATED: California Army National Guard now in San Diego County after sheriff's request"Tonight, [California Army Guard] troops have left [San Diego County]. We want to thank them for supporting [San Diego Sheriff Department] and our partner law enforcement agencies to ensure the protection of life and property while balancing people’s right to assemble peacefully," Gore tweeted.A timeline for the Guard pullout was not provided, but Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said some troops would begin departing Sunday evening. Meanwhile the Compton Cowboys, a group of mostly African American horse enthusiasts, wore boots and ten-gallon hats during a “ride for peace” through urban neighborhoods south of Los Angeles. 1339

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A pair of active-duty U.S. Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton were arrested Tuesday morning on a federal grand jury indictment charging one of the Marines and three civilians with conspiring to distribute narcotics -- including oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl -- to civilians and members of the Marine Corps, one of whom suffered a fatal drug overdose in May.Lance Cpls. Anthony Ruben Whisenant, 20, and Ryan Douglas White, 22, were expected to make their initial appearances Tuesday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. Whisenant allegedly distributed narcotics to fellow Marines, including the one who overdosed, and White is charged with being an accessory after the fact for allegedly attempting to hinder the apprehension of Whisenant and an alleged drug supplier named in the indictment. The 14-count superseding indictment also charges:-- Jordan Nicholas McCormick, 26, of Palmdale, the lead defendant and the conspiracy's alleged supplier of LSD, ecstasy, cocaine and oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl to co-conspirators-- Gustavo Jaciel Solis, 24, of Sylmar, who allegedly distributed McCormick's drugs to civilians and military personnel-- Jessica Sarah Perez, 23, of Pacoima, who allegedly distributed narcotics, including fentanyl and cocaine, to civilian customersOn Aug. 11, Solis and Perez were indicted on fentanyl and cocaine distribution charges, and Solis was indicted on firearms-related charges. They have pleaded not guilty and their trial date is scheduled for Oct. 27. Solis is in federal custody and Perez is free on ,000 bond.Tuesday's updated indictment adds McCormick -- who is also in federal custody -- Whisenant and White as defendants, in addition to adding charges to the original indictment. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Federal investigators who examined the burned-out wreckage of a scuba diving boat have not been able to determine what ignited a fire that killed 34 people off the California coast, a law enforcement official said Friday.Teams from the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives left after spending two weeks reviewing what remains of the Conception, according to an official with knowledge of the investigation.Parts of the vessel have been sent to labs for additional testing, said the official, who was not authorized to release the information publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity. There is no indication anyone intentionally set the Sept. 2 fire.Six crew members were asleep when the fire broke out before dawn and trapped those sleeping in bunks below deck. Coast Guard rules require a roving watchman, and authorities were looking into possible criminal charges that would likely focus on an obscure federal law known as the seaman's manslaughter statute.RELATED: San Diego woman killed in deadly Conception boat fire off Santa BarbaraWith the boat propped up by braces and scaffolding, investigators wearing protective suits walked over planks to inspect and document the burned vessel at Port Hueneme, a naval base more than 60 miles (97 kilometers) northwest of Los Angeles, the official said. Some parts of the boat washed away because it was submerged for two weeks off Santa Cruz Island.Authorities also will examine hundreds of documents seized from the boat's owner, Truth Aquatics Inc., days after the fire. The Coast Guard, FBI and U.S. attorney's office in Los Angeles are leading a criminal investigation into the blaze, and the National Transportation Safety Board is conducting a safety inquiry. The captain and four crew members asleep on the vessel's upper deck survived the fire. The sixth, a 26-year-old deckhand named Allie Kurtz, was sleeping below deck and perished with the boat's 33 passengers.Truth Aquatics preemptively filed a federal lawsuit under a pre-Civil War maritime law that shields boat owners from monetary damages in a disaster at sea.Ryan Sims, a cook on the boat who broke his leg trying to escape the flames, claimed in a separate lawsuit that the boat was unseaworthy and operated in an unsafe manner.Coast Guard records show the Conception passed its two most recent inspections with no safety violations. 2408

LONDON – A recording has reportedly emerged of Tom Cruise laying into the crew of “Mission: Impossible 7” over people not following COVID-19 protocols. The Sun, a British tabloid, was the first to report on the incident, releasing audio of the confrontation on Tuesday. The New York Times and Variety have since confirmed the authenticity of the clip.Cruise apparently became angry when he saw two crew members standing too close together at a computer screen, violating a rule that says people must stand six feet to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. In the profanity-laden audio, the actor can be heard saying, “We are creating thousands of jobs, you mother****ers. I don’t ever want to see it again.”Cruise goes on to say that if he sees anyone on the crew breaking protocol again, they’ll be fired. In his rant, Cruise also said they want the film’s production to be “the gold standard” and that other movies are being made in Hollywood because of them.“We are creating thousands of jobs you mother****ers,” Cruise reportedly said. The Sun did not say when the audio was recorded, but Reuters reports that the filmmakers arrived in London earlier this month. The film, which Cruise is starring in and co-producing, is scheduled to be released next fall. 1265
