Ponder has helmed the Las Vegas-based organization HOPE for Prisoners for the last 15 years.Richard Beasley, a retired FBI agent who arrested Ponder, stood alongside Trump and Ponder during the pardon.Trump has previously been involved with HOPE for Prisoners. In February, Trump visited Las Vegas and met with 30 members of the program.Ponder said in February that his organization has helped 3,000 formerly incarcerated people back into the workforce.Trump has used pardons and clemencies sparingly during his tenure. President Donald Trump on Thursday blamed the news media for the angry political climate as a serial bomber continues to send suspicious packages to Democrat politicians and news organizations."A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News. It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!" Trump tweeted.Trump's comments come a day after CNN's New York offices were evacuated after a suspicious package addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan was discovered in the building's mailroom.Trump made similar comments at a political rally in Wisconsin on Wednesday, saying the  "the media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and to stop the endless hostility."Trump took a more muted tone on Wednesday afternoon prior to his rally, hours after packages containing explosive devices had been intercepted before they were delivered to his political rivals Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama."In these times, we have to unify, we have to come together, send a message that acts or threats of political violence of any kind have no place in the United States of America," Trump said.Just last week, at a political rally in Montana, Trump recalled fondly that Rep. Greg Gianforte (R-Montana) once assaulted a reporter, saying that "any guy that can do a body slam, he's my kind of guy."  1508

PORTLAND, Ore. — The mayors of six U.S. cities are appealing to Congress to make it illegal for the U.S. government to deploy militarized agents to cities that don’t want them. The mayors of Portland, Oregon; Seattle; Chicago; Kansas City; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Washington wrote to leaders of the U.S. House and Senate pushing for limits on agent deployments. The move came Monday as a top official said federal militarized officers would remain in Portland until attacks on the U.S. courthouse cease. Early Monday, U.S. agents repeatedly fired what appeared to be tear gas, flash bangs and pepper balls at protesters.Federal agents have been patrolling Portland over a little over a week. They were sent to the city by the Department of Homeland Security as part of President Donald Trump's crackdown on the defacement of federal property, statues and monuments.Protests have taken place nightly in Portland for 60 straight days, since the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis. While the vast majority of those demonstrating have been peaceful, a federal courthouse has been defaced with graffiti, some protesters have thrown fireworks and other projectiles toward officers and others have attempted to breach fencing surrounding the courthouse.Federal agents have responded by using tear gas, pepper balls and the use of batons to disperse protesters on several occasions. They've also grabbed protesters off the streets and detained them in unmarked cars.Protests have escalated in intensity since federal agents have arrived in the city, which has forced Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler to call for their removal. 1677

POWAY, Calif., (KGTV)-- Fire crews battled a house fire in Poway Sunday afternoon after neighbors heard hissing sounds and an explosion. Poway and San Diego Fire departments responded to the 13,000 block of Silver Saddle Lane after getting a 9-1-1 call at around 1:15 pm. When crews arrived, they found the side of the home on fire. "The fire was just on the garage and the exterior of the garage. It appears it did not make it into the house," Poway Fire Battalion Chief Ray Fried said. Batt. Chief Fried said the methane levels were too high, above 0 ppm, which meant his fire crews needed to stand down until SDG&E cleared the gas leak. "We're not going inside at this time, because the gas readings are fairly high inside the house," Batt. Chief Fried said. No one was inside the home at the time of the explosion. One family next door was evacuated in an abundance of caution. 894
