The Trump administration is considering a new travel ban to replace its original executive order, which has had its legality questioned and is up for a Supreme Court hearing next month, White House national security adviser H.R. "The second part of this is their ability to travel and to move and to move people and money and weapons, oftentimes drugs and other illicit goods, internationally. So part of the strategy must be to interdict these networks, interdict them from how they use information, and communicate, but how they move physically, as well.The Supreme Court is set to hear?oral arguments in the travel ban case early next month.The President's executive order would suspend travel from six Muslim-majority countries (Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen) for 90 days while the secretary of homeland security and others submit a report on the results of a worldwide review to identify what additional information will be needed from each country to make sure an individual seeking entrance is not a public-safety threat.Responding to a lawsuits from states challenging the ban, the Supreme Court let much of the ban take effect in late June, meaning the 90-day clock started and will hit on or around September 24.Administration officials have not divulged the specifics of their future plans.At a recent homeland security conference in Washington DC, acting Customs and Border Protection Deputy Commissioner Ronald Vitiello said, "We are in the process of action planning about each of the opportunities that the US government has to interview and/or vet potential inbound travelers."That could include "looking at things like social media, looking at things like smart phones, those kinds of windows, if you will, into people's backgrounds and their activity," he said.The-CNN-Wire 2771

The White House has cut ties with a senior adviser to first lady Melania Trump after it was revealed the aide's firm was paid close to million to plan events around President Donald Trump's inauguration.The first lady's office said in a statement that it ended its contract with Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, who had been working as a special government employee."The Office of the First Lady severed the gratuitous services contract with Ms. Wolkoff. The Trump administration has formally asked the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to develop regulations that could apply to Facebook, Twitter and other such platforms.It's a key step toward President Donald Trump fulfilling his executive order to regulate social media.The order asks the FCC to clarify a section of law that has shielded tech companies from much litigation over internet content since 1996.The FCC — which is reviewing the Administration's petition — now has to decide whether to agree with the president's call for oversight or not.Legal experts say the agency has traditionally avoided regulating internet companies in the past. 662

The Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) identified Rusten Sheskey as the officer who shot Jacob Blake seven times in the back in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Sunday.The DCI, which provided its first update on the case late Wednesday, nearly 72 hours after the shooting, said its continuing its investigation, but is not pressing charges as of now.The shooting has prompted massive unrest in Kenosha since. The unrest culminated in a shooting incident that killed two people and injured one person on Tuesday amid the late-night demonstration. A 17-year-old was arrested in connection to Tuesday's shooting.In response to Sunday’s shooting, professional athletes in multiple sports boycotted scheduled games. All three NBA Playoff games on Wednesday were postponed, and a MLB game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds was also postponed.Investigators said that Sheskey, who was placed on administrative leave, has been with the police department for seven years.The DCI gave the following description of Sunday’s incident:“During the incident, officers attempted to arrest Jacob S. Blake, age 29. Law enforcement deployed a taser to attempt to stop Mr. Blake, however the taser was not successful in stopping Mr. Blake. Mr. Blake walked around his vehicle, opened the driver’s side door, and leaned forward. While holding onto Mr. Blake’s shirt, Officer Rusten Sheskey fired his service weapon seven times. Officer Sheskey fired the weapon into Mr. Blake’s back. No other officer fired their weapon. Kenosha Police Department does not have body cameras, therefore the officers were not wearing body cameras.”Officials also said that Blake told officers he had a knife. The DCI said that officials later found a knife on the driver's side floor of the car.The only videos of the incident were take bystanders that showed Blake opening his car door before he was shot at a close distance by Sheskey.Blake’s family said on Tuesday that the 29-year-old is partially paralyzed, but was fortunate to survive from his injuries. 2048
