The FBI says a British socialite who was accused by many women of helping procure underage sex partners for Jeffrey Epstein has been arrested in Bradford, New Hampshire.The FBI said Thursday that Ghislaine Maxwell was taken into custody at around 8:30 a.m. on charges related to the Epstein scandal.Epstein killed himself in a federal detention center in New York last summer while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.Maxwell was accused by many women of recruiting them to give Epstein massages, during which they were pressured into sex. She's been charged with four counts relating to sex trafficking and two counts of perjury.During a press conference Thursday, Acting Attorney for the Southern District of New York Audrey Strauss thanked the victims who came forward to authorities. She said that without their help, they would not be able to charge Maxwell.Strauss also urged Prince Andrew to speak with investigators and cooperate with the ongoing investigations into Epstein and Maxwell. The British royal was known to be friendly with Epstein during the time abuse occurred and has described their relationship as a friendship. He even stayed at Epstein's New York apartment in 2010, two years after Epstein was convicted of sex crimes.Maxwell has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and called some of the claims against her "absolute rubbish." 1361

The Centers for Disease Control has issued new guidance for employers, giving them various situations they may come across and how they should decide to test their employees for COVID-19."There's a lot of different questions coming out from employers about the whole process of testing, doing temperature taking of employees who are returning back to work again," says Amber Clayton, the knowledge center director at the Society for Human Resources Management.Clayton says employers are grappling with increased uncertainty surrounding how and when to implement coronavirus testing at their offices."Employers can have a policy in place. Per the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission they can test during this pandemic so they could require COVID testing. Now, antibody testing can’t be mandated but COVID testing can," says Clayton.The CDC recommends, in most cases, to only test employees who are showing symptoms.But what if a person knows they've been exposed to the virus but isn't showing symptoms, is a test appropriate?"I think it may be on a case by case basis. So, if it is positive, I think it's probably helpful. It tells you the person did in fact become infected," says Dr. Beth Thielen, an infectious disease doctor with the University of Minnesota.Dr. Thielen says employers should be careful, though, as employees who aren't showing symptoms could have a false negative if they test too early, before the virus spreads in the person's system."The CDC guidance still indicates if someone tests positive for COVID before they return back to work, they should be quarantined and out of work for at least 10 days, that they don't have a fever or they've they have gone without a fever for 24 hours or without fever reducing medications," says Clayton.Employers can ask employees who have gotten a positive COVID-19 test to take a second test, showing they're negative before returning to work, but the CDC doesn't recommend it and says in their guidelines, "Employees with COVID-19 who have stayed home can stop home isolation and return to work when they have met one of the sets of criteria.”Some of that criteria includes 10 days passing since the employee last experienced any COVID-19 symptoms.Dr. Thielen says, this recommendation makes sense."We haven’t detected people who have had culturable virus out as far as 14 days after," says Dr. Thielen. She adds, so far, studies have found that most people who still test positive weeks alter won't transmit the virus to others. She believes employers should continue to look to the CDC for guidance."I think these are some of our leading public health thinkers and they’re making decisions based on a long history of experience based on dealing with other respiratory infections but also newly emerging data," says Dr. Thielen.As for Clayton, she says employers will want to ensure the confidentiality of employees who do test positive while at the same time notifying others who may have been exposed. And also, do some research or consult legal counsel before implementing any testing at the office."Or if you have situations where employees refuse to be tested maybe for medical reasons, those things tend to fall under the Americans with Disabilities Act sometimes, so make sure you’re doing your homework before you implement any type of testing program," says Clayton. 3350

The Democratic National Convention gets underway this week. Republicans will hold their convention next week. While this year's convention is virtual for both parties, have you asked yourself what's the point of these anyway?CONVENTIONS YEARS AGO WERE DIFFERENT Americans have known for months that Joe Biden is going to be the Democratic nominee and that Donald Trump would be the Republican nominee. However, before political parties started relying on primaries, conventions were the place the nominee was decided.In 1856, it took Abraham Lincoln three rounds of voting to become the Republican nominee. In 1924, Democrats needed 103 ballots over 16 days to pick John Davis as their party nominee.CONVENTIONS PURPOSE In 1948, networks began televising conventions and since then, many argue conventions have become taxpayer-funded spectacles for insiders. While taxpayers are no longer directly funding conventions, they are paying for security. In 2016, it was estimated that around 0 million of taxpayer funds were spent on convention security. 1952 was the last year both political parties had a contested convention; however, party insiders believe conventions still play a pivotal role. Conventions are where networking can take place and where delegates can debate the party platform. It's also a place where training sessions can occur and speeches can take place. Could Barack Obama have become president in 2008 without his speech at the 2004 convention? Sure, it's possible, but that speech was credited with making the Illinois state senator a household name. WILL 2020 CHANGE CONVENTIONS? With the events now online, after these next two weeks, both parties will likely sit down and see if in-person conventions need to be changed at all. Do parties need a full week of expensive arena space? Or would that money be better spent on staffing in swing states? Will Americans tune in like they did in 2016 this year? The FBI has fired Peter Strzok, an agent who was removed from the Russia probe last year for sending text messages disparaging President Donald Trump, Strzok's lawyer said Monday.Aitan Goelman, Strzok's attorney, said FBI Deputy Director David Bowdich ordered the agent's termination on Friday. Goelman said that the deputy director's decision comes after the head of the office that normally handles disciplinary actions decided Strzok should instead face a demotion and 60-day suspension."The decision to fire Special Agent Strzok is not only a departure from typical Bureau practice, but also contradicts (FBI) Director (Christopher) Wray's testimony to Congress and his assurances that the FBI intended to follow its regular process in this and all personnel matters," Goelman said in his statement.The FBI declined to comment on Goelman's assertions.Strzok played a lead role in the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server and was involved in the FBI's recommendation that no criminal charges be filed against the former secretary of state. He later helped oversee the beginnings of the probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, and his involvement in both investigations has been seized on by Republicans as evidence of anti-Trump bias in the bureau and those investigating potential coordination between the Trump campaign and Moscow.The President tweeted about the firing Monday afternoon, calling Strzok a "total fraud" and repeated his claim that there was no collusion nor that he obstructed justice."Agent Peter Strzok was just fired from the FBI - finally. The list of bad players in the FBI & DOJ gets longer & longer. Based on the fact that Strzok was in charge of the Witch Hunt, will it be dropped? It is a total Hoax. Trump wrote, adding in another tweet, "Just fired Agent Strzok, formerly of the FBI, was in charge of the Crooked Hillary Clinton sham investigation. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is embarking on a rebranding effort of sorts.The church, commonly referred to as the Mormons, really wants people to stop using that word. It also wants people to stop using LDS as an abbreviation. From now on, it prefers that people use the church's full name, and when a shortened reference is needed, to just use "the Church" or "Church of Jesus Christ."These preferences are contained in a new style guide that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released Thursday. It states that while "the term 'Mormon Church' has long been publicly applied to the Church as a nickname, it is not an authorized title, and the Church discourages its use." It also asks that the term "Mormons" not be used in references to members.Also out: the word "Mormonism," which the style guide states is an "inaccurate" word to use to describe the "doctrine, culture and lifestyle unique to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." But the word Mormon is fine to use in proper names, like the Book of Mormon, or in historical expressions like the Mormon Trail. 1126
