STOCKHOLM, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Iceland's President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson Wednesday said that Iceland's government and people sincerely appreciate China's precious support to Iceland in dealing with financial crisis and treat China as a trustworthy friend and important cooperation partner, according to a report reaching here from Reykjavik."Iceland is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields including geothermal energy, earthquake monitoring, culture and tourism. Iceland will take the 40th anniversary of Iceland-China diplomatic relations as an opportunity to promote bilateral relations to a new stage," Grimsson said in a meeting with Liu Qi, a high-ranking Chinese party official.Liu, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, arrived in Iceland on Monday after his three-day visit to Sweden.Liu said that with the close and frequent high level mutual visits in recent years, political trust between the two sides has been strengthened."The two sides have had fruitful mutually beneficial cooperation in financial, fishery, geothermal energy and hydropower fields and conducted active educational, scientific and technological and cultural exchanges. BEIJING, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Marine Corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will conduct a joint drill with their counterpart of Thailand, China's Ministry of National Defense said Wednesday.Called "Blue Assault-2010," the joint drill will take place in Sattahip, Thailand, from Oct. 26 to Nov. 14, a ministry statement said.The joint training exercise will be the first for the PLA marines, according to the statement.The joint drill will focus on anti-terrorism. It will also aim at helping marines from Thailand and China learn from each other, enhance mutual understanding, step up friendly exchange and cooperation in a bid to improve the capabilities of both countries' marine corps to handle new challenges and threats together.

BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- China and the European Union (EU) are forging a reliable partnership as one's stability, growth and prosperity are in the interests of the other, said an EU envoy on Thursday.Serge Abou, EU Ambassador to China, made the remarks before Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao attends the eighth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM8) and the 13th China-EU summit from Oct. 4 to 6. The ASEM summit, under the theme "Quality of Life: Achieving Greater Well-being and More Dignity for all Citizens," will focus on global finance and economic governance, sustainable development, and social and cultural exchange between Asia and Europe.China, as the second largest economy in the world, plays an important role in the meetings, Abou said, adding that the growth of Chinese economy contributed much to the world, especially amid the financial crisis.Abou described the relationship between China and the EU as "maturing partnership," with trade as "the first taproot" of the ties.The 27-member EU is China's biggest trade partner while China is the EU's second-largest trade partner and most important source of imports.
