(AP) — California authorities have returned a pet tortoise to its owner after the wandering animal was spotted in another resident's backyard.The Record Searchlight reported the 41-year-old tortoise named Dino ambled away after a storm blew open the latch on its outdoor enclosure in Red Bluff.An animal regulation officer says the tortoise was found about a half-mile (0.8 kilometers) from the home of owner Cindy Haase.Authorities used watermelon to lure the 150-pound (68-kilogram) tortoise before lifting it into a vehicle for transport.Tehama County sheriff's deputies and the state forestry and fire protection department helped return Dino to Haase.Tortoise Acres Rescue and Sanctuary owner Katie Hoffman says this is breeding season and roaming pet tortoises seeking companionship are "a daily occurrence this time of year." 856

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Associated Press has declared President Donald Trump the winner in North Carolina, though Joe Biden is still projected to win the presidency. The AP concluded Friday that there were not enough outstanding ballots remaining to be counted in the state that would allow Joe Biden to overtake Trump’s lead of 73,697 votes.Friday was the deadline for counties in North Carolina to certify their results. Following updates from most counties in the state, Trump leads Biden by 1.3 percentage points.Trump campaigned aggressively in North Carolina with in-person rallies at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, including gatherings in Fayetteville, Winston-Salem and Greenville in the weeks before the election.He was scheduled to hold the Republican National Convention in the state but pulled out after a fight with the state’s Democratic governor over coronavirus restrictions. It was moved to Jacksonville, Florida, before being largely canceled all together.Trump’s win in the Tar Heel State puts the president at 232 electoral votes and Joe Biden remains at 290 votes.Biden is still projected to win the presidential election, since he has surpassed the 270-vote threshold needed to claim victory.The only state the AP has yet to call is Georgia, which is conducting a recount because neither Biden or Trump leads by more than .5 percentage points. A brief physical scuffle occurred and Lansford ran to the front of the plane.Lansford says the flight crew handled the entire situation really well.While the original man was escorted off, the second passenger was not removed from the plane despite his participation in the fight.When contacted by FOX 13, Allegiant reiterated its position on wearing face masks on flights."Face coverings must be made of solid material, fully cover the mouth and nose, fit snugly against the face, and be secured under the chin. Prohibited coverings include those with exhalation valves, holes (such as lace or mesh), neck gaiters, and bandanas. Protesting an animal rights protest, a chef and co-owner at Antler Kitchen & Bar in Toronto began butchering a raw deer leg with a sharp knife in the restaurant's window.It all started with a friendly chalkboard feud with another local restaurant down the street. According to The Globe and Mail, Antler used its sidewalk sign to write what it thought was a harmless food joke."Venison is the new kale."“There was no offense meant,” Micahel Hunter, the deer-carving chef and co-owner of Antler Kitchen & Bar, told The Globe and Mail. “I’m not trying to promote a meat diet. I have a lot of respect for the vegan diet because I know how hard it is.”But, Marni Ugar, who already had experience organizing animal rights protests, took offense. She saw the sign and organized a rally, the Canadian publication wrote.A group of animal rights activists got together several times in front of the restaurant, chanting "you're a murderer" and "you've got blood on your hands," according to The Globe and Mail. After three months of listening to chants of murder echo through his restaurant came Hunter's breaking point - a counterprotest in full view of the animal rights activists."I figured I'll show them," Hunter told The Globe and Mail. "I'm going to have my own protest."Then protesters held up signs in front of the window as he carved. One had big, pink letters - MURDER. Another said, "Animals are not ours to use."On its website, the locavore restaurant, which prides itself on using local and regional ingredients, says its menu "is rural to its roots" and "aims to celebrate the wild culinary delights of Canada." Menu items, which the protesters clearly do not approve of, include rack of deer and a Game Burger made with wild boar, bison and deer. Even the pappardelle has braised rabbit. On occasion, the restaurant "cook[s] game meats over an open fire pit, in true rustic style."It's clear the restaurant opposes factory farming and prides itself on using all parts of the animal.But Ugar said an animal is an animal. On a street full of butcher shops and other restaurants serving meat, she picked Antler as her protesting focal point to debunk what she calls a myth that raising animals in pastures free from hormones and antibiotics is more ethical than factory farming, she told The Daily Globe and Mail. She said it's not ethical-free meat.After Hunter's counterprotest, he told The Globe and Mail he didn't feel good about it.Hunter and Ugar have begun a conversation over the issue. The Canadian publication said Ugar offered to reduce the frequency of the protests to once a month if Hunter would agree to put a sign in the window: "Attention, animals' lives are their right.
