(KGTV) — Mexican authorities say they have located the remains of a Los Angeles firefighter who disappeared near his Rosarito home more than two months ago.Frank Aguilar, a 20-year veteran of the Los Angeles Fire Department, was last seen after heading to his second home in Baja, California, San Diego family members told ABC 10News in September.Mexican authorities reported that human remains were recently discovered, identified as Aquilar.RELATED:LA firefighter possibly kidnapped from Rosarito condo, local family speaks outRearrests made in connection to firefighter who went missing in Baja"Our Department was notified this afternoon that authorities in Mexico determined that human remains recently found there are those of LAFD Firefighter/Paramedic Francisco Aguilar. On behalf of the men and women of the LAFD, we send our deepest condolences to Firefighter Aguilar's family and we stand ready to assist them in the days to come," a statement from LAFD Chief Ralph Terrazas read.Last month, two people identified only as Santos "N" and Fanny "N" arrested in connection with Aquilar's disappearance. Aquilar's family told ABC 10News that they believed the female suspect may have been dating the firefighter. Officials have only said that it may have been a violent kidnapping setup. The suspects were found in possession of Aguilar’s bank cards which had been used across Baja. There were also reports that Aquilar's condo had been ransacked, his vehicles were missing, and the scene had been captured on Ring video. 1608

(WNEP/CNN) -- A Pennsylvania mother and a father are charged with endangering the welfare of their two children in Lackawanna County.Investigators say the two children were knowingly left alone in the town of Dunmore for nearly three days while the mother was in Florida.Nicole Sciortino, 30, and Vincent Licciardello, 30, were both arraigned Monday morning on those neglect charges.Sciortino told police that she didn't realize it was against the law to leave her two children home alone unsupervised for an extended period of time and added that she, "didn't think it was really that bad."According to court papers, on Wednesday, March 7, Dunmore police responded to the home on Monroe Avenue after receiving a report of children who had been left alone for weeks.When officers arrived, they found a 10 year old and an 11 year old home by themselves. Police say the place was in deplorable condition, with food, boxes, pills, and other trash on the floor. The thermostat read 58 degrees.Police were able to contact the mother of the two children, Nicole Sciortino. She first told them she wasn't far away, but later admitted to police that she was in Florida. She told investigators that the children's father, Vincent Licciardello, who lives elsewhere, was watching the kids.During the investigation, police found that on Monday, March 5, Licciardello dropped the kids off at their mother's house early in the morning. Over the next three days, while their mother was in Florida, he would occasionally stop by to drop food off for the unsupervised children.WNEP-TV spoke with a few people who work in the area, who were floored to hear about the accusations.At the time of the investigation, police say one child had missed 16 days of school, while the other had missed 26 days since the start of the school year."That hurts. I'm a mom of five kids. I couldn't imagine leaving my kids for 10 minutes without an adult supervisor," said Tamra Murphy. "Who's feeding them? Who's washing their clothes? Who's making sure their homework is done? That upsets me beyond it. That hurts me.""That's insane to me," said Kaylia Riley. "I mean, at the end of the day, I couldn't even leave my dogs for three days by themselves, let alone children, especially small children. It's just mind-blowing."Sciortino and Licciardello were both charged Monday with endangering the welfare of children. (KGTV) - People who live and work around Carmel Mountain are having their patience tested by a road work project.San Diego Public Works began laying new asphalt on a two-mile stretch of Rancho Carmel Drive on Monday this week and so far it’s been three days of congestion for those who have to drive through the area.“This is insane,” said one driver who had been waiting for over an hour on connecting to go a few blocks.Several people told 10News they had been in traffic for up to two hours in a quarter-mile span because of the road work.In a statement SDPW wrote:In response to the increase in traffic, we have sent one of our traffic engineers to the site to assess how the traffic control can be improved to reduce the traffic impacts of the work. We want to apologize to all those that were impacted by the traffic. We expect that this particular stretch of work should be completed today, and the remainder of the paving work on Rancho Carmel Dr. should be done within a week or two, with final striping to follow.SDPW says crews will work 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and they plan to have the Rancho Carmel Dr. project done by April 20. 1183

That's the accusation from Republican rival John Cox who says Newsom has agreed to only one debate thus far, despite several opportunities being offered.Newsom tells 10News he has already been part of four debates with Cox but critics point out that was during the primary campaign with other candidates sharing the stage.Newsom tells 10News he prefers meeting with people at town halls where there's more time for interaction with the audience and less grandstanding.RELATED: Gavin Newsom, John Cox to face off in November General Election"Candidly, the last three out of four of our debates, looked like Jerry Springer shows than substantive dialogue," said Newsom. But political analyst Kevin Riggs says its no surprise Newsom is shying away from debates at this point in the race."He's ahead in the polls, he's ahead in the fundraising, at this point his campaign is an exercise in risk management," said Riggs.
