Mental health has become a priority for many people across the country during the pandemic. For college students, it's no different, and many are hoping employers put mental health as a priority when they graduate."As they stress about whether or not they’re going to find internships, whether or not they're going to find employment after they graduate, as they think about their own families, as they think about their health or the health of their loved ones. Everything is just compounding and we wanted to get a better sense of whether students were actively thinking about mental health," said Christine Cruzvergara, the VP of Higher Education and Student Success at Handshake, which connects college students with employers.Cruzvergara says realizing these struggles, Handshake surveyed more than 1,000 college students about their mental health."Over 62% of our students want employers to think about mental health benefits as actually part of the compensation plan and I think that’s a huge shift. We didn’t see students talking about mental health as a benefit previous to COVID," said Cruzvergara.Roughly half of students surveyed said they were concerned about their own mental health with so many people working remotely, adding they were concerned about feeling isolated and about their work-life balance."We've shared this with our employers as we continue conversations with them about how they're going to adapt their training, their onboarding, their compensation," said Cruzvergara.More businesses are also thinking about mental health services for their employees, according to Gympass, a service used by employers to offer benefits like fitness and nutrition programs. Gympass surveyed its own members and found 69% have experienced burnout during the pandemic."We know 95% of people are just aware that wellness in general is more important to their productivity and as employers have become more aware of that we’re seeing the shift to mental wellness awareness, in particular, and we’ve been able to embrace this from a live classes perspective moving into digitals where yoga, people can take their meditation classes online," said Gympass CEO Marshall Porter. (WAVE) — A decision on possible charges in the Breonna Taylor case could be expected soon.Multiple sources tell WAVE 3 News the case is being presented to a grand jury this week at an undisclosed location. One of the sources said an announcement is not expected from Attorney General Daniel Cameron's office until next week, near the six-month mark of Taylor's death.Taylor, a 26-year-old emergency medical worker, was killed by Louisville police serving a "no-knock" narcotics search warrant at her apartment. They found no drugs in her home. An officer was shot during the raid by Taylor's boyfriend, who has said he thought he was defending against a home invasion. The boyfriend was initially charged, but those charges were later dropped.The Louisville Metro Police Department fired one of the officers involved, Brett Hankison, in June, saying he violated procedures by showing "extreme indifference to the value of human life." The other officers involved in the case — Jon Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove — have been placed on administrative reassignment.After nearly six months of investigations, the defense legal team released more than 1,200, graphic, evidence photos from inside and outside Breonna Taylor's Louisville apartment. They show evidence officers may have had body cameras at the scene. Michael Cohen and his attorney met Wednesday with a group of state and federal law enforcement officials investigating various aspects of President Donald Trump's family business and charitable organization, according to people familiar with the meeting.The group, which included the federal prosecutors from the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York who charged Cohen in August and officials from the New York Attorney General's office, met at the Midtown New York City office of Cohen's attorney, Guy Petrillo, these people said.CNN observed Cohen leaving Petrillo's office building Wednesday afternoon. Assistant US Attorney Tom McKay, the lead prosecutor on the Cohen case, had entered the building earlier in the day.The purpose of the meeting wasn't immediately clear, but both offices are continuing to investigate cases that relate to Trump entities and with which Cohen had professional involvement.Representatives for both the attorney general's office and the US attorney's office declined to comment. Petrillo didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.The meeting comes as Cohen, Trump's former personal attorney, has spent hours huddling with prosecutors from the office of special counsel Robert Mueller. Making arts and culture a part of a person's medical treatment could help their long-term health, according to researchers at the University of the Arts in Helsinki, Finland.Researchers at the University say arts and culture in the country are a constitutional right, and that the arts contribute to the health and well-being and society beyond just treating disease and illness.Kai Lehikoinen, a member of the research team, says incorporating arts and culture in treatment allows medical professionals to use more of their own creativity and helps create a more open way of discussing things with a patient."The staff members in hospitals could actually take advantage of their already existing cultural competencies or artistic competencies and bring that into work every day," Lehikoinen said.Lehikoinen says his team developed an outline of more than a dozen recommendations for hospitals to include arts and culture. Some of those recommendations include developing a cultural well-being plan, making arts an culture a strategic core value, hiring a cultural welfare coordinator and keeping records of the cultural needs and wishes of patients."Participation in the arts can enhance the functional capacity of people," Lehikoinen said. "It can prevent loneliness and social exclusion, and has positive impacts on mental health."To describe how the arts can help people of all backgrounds Lehikoinen uses an example of elderly patients who take part in dance therapy. He says it gets them up and moving as much as their body will allow, stimulates their thinking and imagination and gives them a sense of social engagement. 1636
