SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police say no one was injured after a vehicle slammed into a downtown San Diego Starbucks Wednesday afternoon. According to police, the crash happened near 10th Avenue and Market Street around 4 p.m. San Diego Police say a semi-truck crashed into a car, causing the vehicle to slam into the building. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police have identified the man suspected of stabbing a 55-year-old to death in the Midway District Thanksgiving Day. According to San Diego Police, Forrest Robert Brantley, 38, stabbed 55-year-old Robert Frank Erbe around 8 a.m. November 28 on the 3100 block of Sports Arena Boulevard. Erbe was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.RELATED: Police identify man killed in Midway District stabbingAfter investigating the stabbing, police learned that Brantley and Erbe got into some sort of fight before Brantley is accused of stabbing Erbe in the neck. Brantley was last seen walking away from the scene. He is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, police say. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Officials have called off the search and rescue operation for eight service members who went missing after an amphibious assault vehicle accident off San Clemente Island last week.The 15th Marine Expeditionary Force said in a release Sunday that all eight members — seven Marines and one sailor — are presumed dead after it was determined, "that there was little probability of a successful rescue given the circumstances of the incident."Officials say they searched for 40 hours covering more than 1,000 square nautical miles in their efforts to find the missing service members.RELATED: Camp Pendleton Marine dies, 8 missing in training accident off San Clemente Island“It is with a heavy heart, that I decided to conclude the search and rescue effort,” said Col. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than a million California voters have signed up for a new statewide tool that can track a mail-in ballot through its journey from the post office to the mailbox to the final election tally, said California Secretary of State Alex Padilla.“Where’s My Ballot?” can send voters texts, emails or recorded voice calls updating them on their ballot’s status, including when the ballot has been mailed to a voter, when the elections office has received it, and when the ballot has been counted. Voters must sign up for the service.The system can also alert the voter if election officials have rejected their ballot due to a discrepancy, like if the ballot has been flagged for a missing or mismatched signature.“Vote-by-mail has been popular in California for many, many years. But with a further increase in vote-by-mail participation, the transparency and accountability of those mail-in ballots is even more paramount,” Secretary of State Alex Padilla said in an interview.Because of the pandemic, election officials are sending mail ballots to every active, registered voter in California for the first time in state history. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Parents and students are concerned after someone found a bullet in a Point Loma High School restroom. The incident was reported on Monday and while students say there was a lack of communication from school staff, word traveled fast on campus. The school says police are now investigating. "We never heard anything over the intercom or anything," says senior Javan Hedrick. "In my 4th period class, it came up out of nowhere. Everyone was talking about some bullet found in the boys bathroom." Around noon, parents received an email sent from the school's principal, that says in part: "At Point Loma, our first priority is to provide a safe and secure learning environment for our students. As such, I wanted to make you aware of an incident that occurred this morning. School Police investigated a report of a bullet found on the floor of the boys restroom. After an investigation, it was determined there was no threat."Some parents pulled their kids out of class and aren't sure when they'll send them back. "I walked into the office, it was a crazy amount of kids trying to go home," says Hedrick. Students say they would have felt a little better if school staff talked to them about the incident.
