SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- While the San Diego Padres lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday night in Game 1 of the National League Division Series, fans were thankful to be able to participate in the action alongside other San Diegans.While much of the Friar Faithful couldn’t make it to Texas to cheer on the Padres, the playoff excitement was still felt downtown, and for some, that was enough.“Unfortunately, you can’t watch it live, but to be surrounded with a group of people that are all watching it and all really excited, it’s pretty magical,” said Andrea Durkee, a resident of downtown and Padres fan. “I think we all needed something just happy and exciting and to look forward to, and this is absolutely the best thing we could have downtown.”Some fans watched the first game in the best-of-five series from Petco Park’s Tailgate Lot, which was transformed into a drive-in style viewing party.“I have season tickets actually, and we weren’t able to go this year, which is a huge bummer, but we’ve made the best out of it,” said Catie Vance. “We’re excited that we got to do this, at least.”Spectators on the other side were just as excited.“Grew up in LA, my grandfather had season tickets, I’ve probably seen 100 Dodger games at Dodger stadium I haven’t seen them win the world series yet, I’d love to see that, but I guess if someone has to go and the Padres do go, there’s worse things that can happen in life,” said Michael Martin, a Dodger’s fan.Facial coverings were required for all fans outside of their vehicles, and vehicles were spaced 20 feet apart to encourage social distancing. 1606
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — USO San Diego's annual "Santa Store" event kicks off with a special event Tuesday night at their downtown office.The event allows children of military service members to pick a free present they can give their parents as a holiday gift."It just helps give a little more holiday cheer for our service members who do so much to keep us safe and secure at home," USO San Diego CEO Lorin Stewart told 10News.Volunteers collected and wrapped thousands of presents, including watches, tool kits, headphones, makeup kits, and handbags. The parents stay outside the Santa while USO San Diego volunteers help the children select the right gift. "They love being able to talk about what mom and dad are into and what they like, and then have that surprise under the tree," said military spouse Ashley Camak, who organizes the annual event. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Uber has filed paperwork with the FAA to start testing drones in San Diego for food delivery.The petition seeks a series of exemptions that would allow Uber to use drones to transport food in the city of San Diego.The FAA recently granted its first air carrier certification to a drone company, Wing Aviation, which will begin testing in Blacksburg, Virginia.In Uber’s application, it said it would be using the AirRobot 200 drone, a hexa-copter which is larger than typical drones used by videographers.It says the drones would not fly higher than 400 feet and have a range of 3.5 miles.There is currently a public comment period on the FAA’s website.An FAA spokesperson told 10News, “we will thoroughly evaluate all comments we receive, as well as the petitioner’s proposal and associated safety measures, before making a decision.”Uber declined to comment for this story. 901
