SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While Michelin decided to postpone its annual award of stars to California restaurants this year due to the pandemic and wildfires, undercover eaters did find several "discoveries" across the state.The new-found culinary delights were announced as part of Michelin Guide's "Family Meal" livestream to celebrate the resilience of restaurants and raise money for the California Association of Food Banks.In San Diego, five restaurants pleasantly surprised guide inspectors were Tuetano Taqueria in San Ysidro, Morning Glory in Little Italy, Dija Mara in Oceanside, Soichi Sushi in University Heights, and Sushi Tadokoro in Old Town.Inspectors said Tuetano Taqueria Chef Priscilla Curiel’s guisados "are every inch the equal of Baja’s—down to the fair prices and hefty portions (and without the long traffic lines on your way home)." The guide also hailed the restaurant's beef birria that is topped with a bone filled with buttery marrow on top of the taco.Morning Glory's soufflé pancakes are "worth waking up for," according to the guide, and dishes like fried rice with pork belly and eggs and potatoes au gratin are "a great riff on tradition."Indonesian stop Dija Mara serves up creative cocktails and delicious nasi goreng (fried rice with shrimp, pork belly, chicken, and the yolk of a sunny egg) and charred eggplant with smoked tomato sambal and crispy fried shallots, inspectors said.Soichi impressed with its sushi offerings, including its pike mackerel, kampachi, and sea bass dishes. Michelin says Soichi's shirumono fish soup is also a must before trying out the restaurant's green tea ice cream.Inspectors say Sushi Tadokoro's omakase is a must-try, especially the sushi joint's oysters and scallops. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Tuesday marked the the 10-year anniversary of one of the most chilling murders in the history of San Diego County.Chelsea King, 17, was raped and murdered by a registered sex offender as she was out for jog around Lake Hodges in 2010.Today, her family launched a nationwide organization called "Protect the Joy" that will work to protect children.RELATED: A decade later, remembering Chelsea King and Amber DuboisLife changed for Brent King and his wife Kelly a decade ago. Their only daughter was missing out for a run then, nowhere to be found."You can't breathe. Your whole body is shaking, your chest is as tight as it's ever been," Brent King said. "You can't be in enough places at once. Every horrible thought is running through your mind as to whats happening … you know ... Where's my little girl?"After five excruciating days came the most brutal news of all. Chelsea's body was found buried in brush along the banks of Lake Hodges. "The hardest memory I have is the day that Sheriff Johnson pulled me aside and told me what had happened. And I then shared that with Kelly and Tyler," King said. "That was the hardest moment for me of my life. To not only to understand what had happened to my little girl, but then to have to share that with the two people that I care for the most." The community came together in sadness. Within weeks thousands gathered to finish Chelsea's run. It would become an annual event for the next eight years. The King family established the Chelsea's Light Foundation. To date, it's awarded over 0,000 in scholarships to local students. California lawmakers passed Chelsea's Law, which established stricter penalties for sex crimes against children.But the Kings aren't done. They're launching an organization called Protect the Joy to work on passing legislation to protect children across the country."[It's] really an umbrella organization that will work on passing legislation that will protect our kids from all those things out there," King added. All those things that threaten the safety of children, everything from gun violence, opioid abuse, sexual predators, and bullying. King says the new group will work with communities to pass laws to protect children. A lofty goal, he acknowledges."Well Chelsea always tells us to go big or home. And if you are going to do something than do it right. Do it all the way," King said.King says he's learned over the course of his time grieving that he can find joy in people's eyes, in being connected with others and trusting in the good of people. But as he sets out to grow the organization, he struggles to change policy will not be his only burden."The hard days for me is when I have to attend a wedding," King said. "Those things that a dad and a mom get to do with their kids that Kelly and I don't get to do." 2841

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Video posted on social media shows a vehicle narrowly missing a pedestrian and slamming into a car in Pacific Beach. Dennys Morales says the incident happened just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Riviera Drive and Graham Street. Video shows the car making a turn before nearly hitting a woman walking in the street. The footage then shows the driver slamming into Morales' parked car. Morales tells 10News the man said his back tire was low, claiming he swerved to avoid hitting the pedestrian, instead hitting the parked car. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — At Fleet Week, the Osprey MV-22 is on display, on the USS Harper's Ferry's flight deck, a controversial aircraft after dozens died during training. Crews say now it's much safer.The unique aircraft transforms from a helicopter to a plane mid-flight. The trouble, four crashes killed 30 people during training missions from 1991-2000."Most every system on that aircraft has a triple redundant system, so that if there is a failure the other two systems pick up the slack," Corporal Tyler Gartin said. "The Osprey was able to land in places that other aircraft were not able to, and carry out a much higher payload than any other helicopter possibly could have.
