In his warm and inspiring remarks just now, Secretary-General Gurria looked back at a journey of 20 years since China and the OECD started the policy dialogue. For China, the world's biggest developing country with 1.3 billion people, development has always been of top priority throughout the 30-odd years of reform and opening-up. At the global level, problems like poverty and diseases have to be addressed while we are promoting prosperity and progress in civilization. And that, in the final analysis, has to be done through development. In a world of deeply integrated economies, solutions to these problems lie in international cooperation.

The exhibition is part of the country's events in the run up to the 70th anniversary of the victory of the anti-Japanese aggression war and the victory of WWII.

The efforts will involve these measures: to promote maritime research, development, maintenance and protection, to expand cooperation between maritime enforcement agencies from both countries, to combat illegal and unregulated fishing, etc.

"Apart from satisfying the need of necessary military defense, the main purpose of China's construction activities is to meet various civilian demands and better perform China's international obligations and responsibilities," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said on Tuesday in a press release.

The two sides should promote continued achievement of new progress in cooperation in infrastructure, equipment manufacturing, the petrochemical industry, building materials, mining, automobiles and agriculture, the Chinese vice premier added.
