In a sign that veganism is making its way into the American mainstream, Disney announced Tuesday that plant-based food options will be added to every dining location in their US theme parks.More than 400 vegan dishes will be available at quick-service and table-service restaurants in Orlando, Florida's Walt Disney World in early October, followed by Anaheim, California's Disneyland in spring 2020.It's a major undertaking: There are more than 602 places to eat at The Walt Disney World in Orlando and Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, most of them uniquely themed to a theme park land or hotel.Soon each one will have a themed vegan option to match, such as the Star Wars-inspired "Tatooine Two Suns Hummus" in Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando, or "Le Fou Festin" at the Be Our Guest Restaurant at Disney's Magic Kingdom, also in Orlando.A new green leaf logoThe new additions extend beyond park walls: every dining location inside Disney's 36 Orlando and three Anaheim hotels will also get vegan options. They include "Carrot Gnocchi" at The Turf Club Bar and Grill at the Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and "Cauliflower Tacos" at The Wave of American Flavors at Disney's Contemporary Resort. From the "Chili-Spiced Crispy Fried Tofu" at Animal Kingdom to "Eggless Florentine" on Main Street U.S.A., Disney is being careful to call the items "plant-based" and not "vegan." That's because the exact definition of what qualifies as vegan has long been a moving target. To help guests easily spot the plant-based plates, Disney is marking each menu item with a new green leaf logo. However, the company did say that all of the items "are made without animal meat, dairy, eggs or honey," meeting the broadest definition of vegan cuisine. There are few places less hospitable for vegans and vegetarians than theme parks, where the standard fare is burgers and dogs. They are among 1904

It’s April 15: tax day. By midnight, Americans have to file their taxes or apply for an extension. The Internal Revenue Service requires anyone who owes the government money in their taxes to pay by midnight, even if they file for an extension. With that rule in mind, a lead tax research analyst at Kansas City-based H&R Block said it’s easier to complete taxes today instead of pushing it back another six months. "If you're going to have to go to the trouble to actually figure out what you owe, you might as well file your return, get it over with," said Nathan Rigney, a research analyst. "And you may discover in fact you get a refund." He added most Americans are seeing a smaller tax return, or owe the government for the first time, but they received more take-home pay during the year. To avoid having to pay next year, Rigney suggested looking at your withholding. It's the amount of money your employer keeps from your paycheck to pay the government on your behalf. You can fill out a W4 to change your withholding. Depending on your changes, come this time next year, you may be getting a check instead of writing one. "[If you don't, the amount you owe] might even be a little bit worse just because of the way the withholding tables were implemented last year for only half of the year. This year, it will be for the full year," Rigney said. The stories of people receiving smaller refunds than past years is part of the reason some Americans haven't filed their taxes yet and will be rushing to tax preparers Monday."A lot of people come in, especially this year with the new tax law, with a little bit of anxiety, not sure how they're going to be impacted," Rigney said. "Being able to explain to people how they'll be impacted, answer their questions and put them at ease is what we do." Because you can file your taxes online, you have until midnight to submit the necessary documents to the IRS. — 1933

Ja’Net DuBois, who played the vivacious neighbor Willona Woods on “Good Times” and composed and sang the theme song for “The Jeffersons,” has died. DuBois’ song “Movin’ on Up” provided a joyous intro to “The Jeffersons” during the show’s 10-season run and has achieved enduring popularity in films and on other television shows. BernNadette Stanis, who played Thelma Evans Anderson on “Good Times,” said she learned of her friend's death Tuesday from DuBois' daughter. DuBois had a prolific career beyond the 1970s hit “Good Times,” winning two Emmy Awards for her voice work on the WB series “The PJs.” 615

INDIANAPOLIS — "I didn't know what to think. I was still in shock like how did the fire even happen?"Rachel McRee was in the restroom when she heard a loud explosion come from the kitchen where her boyfriend, Raveen Sugantheraj, had been cooking. "We didn't even realize that he had been burned," McRee said. The kitchen was on fire. So our first priority was putting that out."Once the couple finally put the fire out near the stove top, they realized that Sugantheraj had been severely burned. "It's his arms, his face, his neck, his hands, his ear," McRee said. "I feel terrible for him and the pain that he's in. I just feel horrible, you know, he's in so much pain," she said. "I've watched him get his bandage changed. He's got raw skin. It's like ten to 15 percent of his body that's just burnt off."Sugantheraj was in the hospital undergoing surgery on Friday."They're having to do skin grafts, severe ones. One is going to be pigskin, one's going to be his own skin," Sugantheraj's girlfriend said. She is not sure of his recovery time. The cause of the fire? A can of Pam cooking spray kept too close to open flames. "He's a full-time med student. He's educated. He's very smart... He had no idea - I had no idea," McRee said. "We know to keep cooking oil away, especially not on the stove top, but we had placed it far enough to where we thought it was OK."The medical director in Eskenazi's emergency department, Dr. Tyler Stepsis, said aerosol bottles like Pam make oils even more flammable. She said that this is a common occurrence. "You not only have the thing your aerosolizing but you also have the propellant. And the propellant a lot of times is what can catch fire," Dr. Stepsis said. As a warning: "When you set it down, don't put it by your stove, put it very far away because I don't want this to happen to anybody else," McRee said. Doctors say, bottom line, know what you're cooking with and keep it a safe distance from flames. RTV6 reached out to the company that makes Pam, and they told the newsroom:"Like other aerosols, PAM Cooking Sprays are flammable, and its contents are under pressure. All PAM Cooking Sprays include warnings on the front and back of the packaging warning consumers that the product is flammable."The company also added that it should not be left on a stove or near a heat source, should not be sprayed near an open flame and should not be stored above 120 degrees Fahrenheit. If you have a problem and need help getting results, connect with RTV6 by emailing us at workingforyou.com. 2549

It used to be frowned upon to show up to work in jeans. However, more companies are now making it “Casual Friday” every day.At the digital media firm Inboxlab, employees get to wear jeans, t-shirts and sneakers to the office."When people are wearing something they enjoy wearing or feel comfortable in, they will actually be able to perform at their best," says Sean Devlin, the vice president of operations at Inboxlab.Employee Victoria Hurd agrees, saying previous jobs did not give her the freedom she has at Inboxlab."The median age was 45 to 50. The expectation was completely different than what it is here,” she explains. “I had to wear a pantsuit, nice shirt, heels and things like that every single day. It was not stifling, but I felt regimented."Many people think the trend of dressing more casual has come from the younger workers."There’s a lot more of this millennial vibe and people wanting to get much more out of their lives than just at work," Hurd says.Dressing casual and comfortable is great, but there is such a thing as too casual."You don't want someone in a tracksuit, but you do want them to feel comfortable with what they are wearing,” Devlin says.Since every day is casual day, the company treats Fridays a little differently; they have theme days. Last week, the team dressed for Pride Week. "It’s more relaxed. We have open lines of communication amongst all of the team members,” Hurd says about the work environment. “There’s a really great culture at Inboxlab, in part because we are able to dress how we want to." 1560
