Teachers across the U.S. have had to educate in completely new and challenging ways this year, with some teaching in-person and others instructing from home.“Right now, they are being asked to do the unimaginable and the impossible,” said shea martin, a former educator. “Whether that is teaching in-person during the pandemic or trying to navigate teaching at home with limited resources.”martin left teaching before the pandemic because of the demands and pressures placed on teachers even then. martin simply couldn’t imagine teaching now, with the additional load teachers are being asked to carry. Recently, though, martin created The Anonymous Teachers Speak Project, a blog allowing current educators an online platform to freely speak about what they are going through.“A lot of teachers work in districts and working spaces where they are under contract and cannot share or publicly talk about what is happening with them,” said martin. “That’s an extra burden they have to carry.”With anonymity, roughly 1,000 teachers have posted and participated in the project.“I think that I have read and seen some of the most heartbreaking stuff I have ever seen in my life,” added martin.Many teachers from around the country have posted to the project, writing about safety concerns while teaching, being overworked and over-worried about their students. Some even write about coming to terms with leaving the profession.“Teachers are crying out for help and the profession, and the district, and the schools, and the structures, are ignoring them,” said martin. “I hope it doesn’t happen, but I think we are going to lose a whole generation of teachers.”According to a report recently released by Horace Mann, a company focused on investing and insurance for educators, 27 percent of teachers surveyed--or more than 1 in 4 teachers--are currently considering quitting.“The fact that a quarter of teachers are considering leaving and the fact that there is already a shortage of teachers in the profession, just really make that even more so magnified,” said Tyson Sanders, who is with Mann. “Three out of four teachers are not living comfortably, so if there is an opportunity to be involved in the profession they are so passionate about and continue to help students, I think it is something they will certainly explore.”That seems to be exactly what is happening, especially with teachers overwhelmed in the public-school space. More and more educators are starting to turn to online teaching opportunities with private companies. TAMPA, Fla. -- A Tampa man is speaking to national supermarket chains after inventing a device to sanitize shopping carts.Adam Labadie created a product known as "The Arch Cart Sanitizer." The device sanitizes shopping carts in a few seconds. It uses an organic, EPA, FDA approved solution to kill COVID-19. "We ship a dry package to the store. We don't ship liquid across the country," he said.Studies show shopping cart handles have bacteria on them. It is one of the most commonly touched items in a store."Customers now are expecting a clean cart. They expect a clean store and a clean cart," said Labadie. Labadie said he first noticed a trash can full of used wipes at a local grocery store. He also saw a lot of trash while snorkeling and diving in Florida."I went and I looked at the trash can. It was a full trash can full of wipes," he said."I wanted to find another solution," he added.Labadie said his invention could help eliminate the use of wipes at grocery stores. He hopes to start production in the next few weeks."We'll be sending out free demos, free demos to grocers...some in the Northeast and some in the South in about 3 weeks so it's super exciting for me. It means I get to showcase my baby," said Labadie. The father of two was laid off at the start of the pandemic. He began working on his invention. STORY - One of the two girls who was molested by a La Jolla realtor faced the child predator at his sentencing Friday. Donald Hickey received a 25-years-to-life term as part of his plea deal in five felonies. In July, Hickey admitted to lewd and lascivious acts with a child and possession of child pornography. Prosecutors said the molestations occurred between 2009 and 2012. Hickey was caught thanks to a cyber tip submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Hickey apologized to his victims in court in August, saying “I’m sorry for everything that's happened. I take responsibility for it and I hope they do heal from it.'' ``No teenager should be in a situation where they sit down and think about what they're going to say to a pedophile,'' one of the girls said after Hickey pleaded guilty. ``No parent should have to decide whether or not to tell their child that they have been assaulted.
