The City of San Diego is inviting residents to donate big items at a recycling event Saturday. Disposal services will be available at SDCCU Stadium in Mission Valley from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. City of San Diego residents can drop off appliances, furniture, electronics, televisions, and other bulky belongings. Smaller recyclable items including batteries and light bulbs will also be accepted. Goodwill Industries of San Diego County and Urban Corps of San Diego will accept items and mattresses. The donation and recycling event is part of the Clean SD initiative to reduce illegal dumping. 707

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- From termite infestations to leaky pipes and AC units, some students at San Diego State University say their on-campus housing complex is “abysmal” even though it costs hundreds of dollars more per month than newer apartments just steps away.Shortly after moving into Aztec Corner, sophomores Hanna Bengard and Kalie Slivkoff said they had issues with electricity, a leaky A/C unit and spiders. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - HazMat teams responded to a fire station in North Park after a suspicious package was found outside the station, according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue official.Fire crews found the package by Station 14's front door around 3:20 p.m. Sunday when they returned from a call.Fire officials told 10News the package was a taped-up cardboard box with writing on it that made it appear dangerous. Some of the words were misspelled.The hazmat and bomb personnel set up a perimeter around the station, blocking off 32nd Street and Lincoln Avenue by about a block in each direction.The bomb squad x-rayed the package, determined that it was not dangerous, and reopened the street around 5:45 p.m.The package was filled with aluminum flux and trash, according to a tweet from San Diego Fire-Rescue.At about 3p on Sunday someone left this box at SDFD North Park station on 32nd St. The bomb team was called to ID the contents - aluminum flux and some trash. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Family Fun Center has returned to its roots in Kearny Mesa, reopening the Clairemont Mesa Blvd. location on Saturday.Following the closure of Boomers! last June after parent company Apex Parks Group filed for bankruptcy, the Huish family — who own the land — has revived the site under its original name.Shane Huish says his father built the original park at the site in 1974 and operated it for about 20 years before it was sold to Boomers! in the 1990s."With that happening, our family was excited to get them back. However, when we went back to the parks in June, we were floored," said Shane Huish.Huish says the former Boomers! was in need of several improvements and upgrades.Among those needed improvements, miniature golf, bumper boats, and an arcade all in need of a facelift.Saturday, the park reopened Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with mini-golf on its Storybook and Westernland courses and go-karting, featuring updated karts and track.
