(KGTV) -- A high school Senior from Chula Vista was charged in Federal Court Monday for reportedly trying to recruit other students to smuggle drugs into the U.S.Court documents show that Phillip Junior Webb, who was a senior at Castle Park High School in 2017, recruited other high school students to smuggle methamphetamine and fentanyl into the U.S.According to the documents, starting in July of 2017, juveniles were caught trying to smuggle drugs by strapping the drugs to their bodies as they tried to enter the United States.RELATED: Teens targeted to smuggle Fentanyl across US-Mexico?On May 4, Web was reportedly caught trying to bring a Chinese national and Mexican national into the U.S. in the trunk of his vehicle.“We are seeing a very troubling trend and we want to warn parents and high schoolers,” said U.S. Attorney Adam L. We are going after the recruiters who exploit these kids, but the kids also need to know that they are gambling with their lives when they do this. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A former employee of the Sweetwater Union High School District pleaded guilty Wednesday to an embezzlement charge for siphoning more than ,000 from the district.Danya Margarita Williams, 42 of Chula Vista, is scheduled to be sentenced June 13 in a Chula Vista courtroom. Another embezzlement count, as well as a grand theft count, are expected to be dismissed as part of the plea deal.As part of her job, Williams was responsible for processing money orders received for fingerprint background investigations at the district, which are required during employment screenings, according to Chula Vista police Capt. Phil Collum.Each background investigation costs between to per applicant, and the applicants pay the fee using money orders, he said.``Instead of processing the money in accordance with district requirements, Williams deposited the money into her personal bank account,'' Collum said.District officials discovered the embezzlement -- which occurred between June 2016 and December 2017 -- and reported it to police, he said. (KGTV) — Worried about having their young students continue to develop reading skills during distance learning, the Chula Vista Elementary School District has launched a new effort to get each students books they can have at home.“When you start reading at a later age, reading becomes a chore," said Dr. Lydia Burgos, Principal at Montgomery Elementary. "We want them to become lovers of books.”CVESD schools are working to find sources of reading level-appropriate books. They have developed partnerships with civic organizations, such as Lions and Rotary Clubs, as well as getting donations from UC San Diego. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — A suspected drunk driver had to be pulled from a vehicle after a rollover crash in the South Bay overnight.Police said the driver drove into two parked cars while driving southbound on Broadway at about 2 a.m. Saturday. After hitting one vehicle, her vehicle rolled into the middle of the street.The vehicle she struck collided with a nearby SUV, police said.Emergency crews extricated the woman from her vehicle and took her to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries.Chula Vista Police later arrested the woman for driving under the influence.No one else was injured in the crash. 620
