It can also be another way to share information about your health."With its largely female user base, Pinterest represents an opportunity for spreading credible information and communicating about health, especially women's health issues such as breast cancer, breast cancer prevention, and screening," said Carrie A. Miller, Ph.D., M.P.H., a postdoctoral fellow at the Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Medicine Massey Cancer Center and Department of Health Behavior and Policy.Miller led the Pinterest research study looking at how breast cancer information is communicated on the social media platform.VCU researchers analyzed a sample of 500 Pinterest posts which are referred to as pins. They were collected using Pinterest keywords such as breast cancer."We focused specifically on who posted the pin, the type of visual and textual information included in the pins as well as how users engaged with those pins. Whether those posts were repinned or saved or commented on," Miller said.The research found the posts were mostly text rather than posts of several pictures. Roughly 20 percent seem to come from everyday people."Individuals, Pinterest users just like you or me were posting. Often times, personal narratives, stories about breast cancer, their personal experience with the disease," Miller said.Dr. Miller says these posts can be used to empower the reader and encourage healthcare organizations to join the conversation.She also says if you have specific questions, always have a discussion with your doctor.Miller and her team are working on other social media studies. The move is hailed by reform advocates and criticized by counties that would assume responsibility for some of the state’s most violent criminal youth. The bill generally follows Gov. But legislators added what advocates said are needed safeguards and standards for the hundreds of millions of dollars that would eventually flow to counties to house and treat youths. (AP) — California's state auditor says the California State Lottery skimped on giving million in revenue to fund public education funding and spent 0,000 on food and travel expenses without considering cheaper options. The auditor's report made public Tuesday says the lottery agency should have accounted for an increase in profits for the fiscal year that ended in June 2018 by providing million in public education financing.The auditor also recommended that the state legislature amend the Lottery Act to ensure audits of the lottery's procurement process at least once every three years.The California State Lottery says in a written response accompanying the audit that it disagrees with the auditor's findings and that the agency gives the most money it can for education.“Lottery revenues and contributions to education were declining in the years prior to the passage of AB 142. The year before this change, the Lottery’s contributions to education were approximately .05 billion. In contrast, last year the Lottery provided .8 billion–the highest contribution to date. Had the Lottery utilized CSA’s interpretation of the law, it would have had to intentionally suppress sales for certain games, resulting in fewer dollars to public education," CA Lottery wrote. “The Lottery disagrees with CSA’s underlying conclusions of the value of its Fairs and Festivals program.
