Wasping is not a new and improved way to get rid of those pesky insects; it's a dangerous new drug trend, and it's causing concerns in Summit County, Ohio after three cases were reported in just one week.Inspector Bill Holland said the white foam spray used to eliminate wasps and hornets is being cut with meth by some drug users for a combination high."Some are spraying it on the meth. Some are spraying it in a manner where they can heat it up and then crystalize it, and then once it's crystallized, they can heat it up again and shoot it into their veins," Holland said.In three different cases over the last week, two men and a woman who appeared to be high were arrested.Once inside the Summit County Jail, they began experiencing hallucinations.Holland said the woman became flushed and agitated, and her vitals were off."Her body started to contort. It almost looked like if you spray a wasp, how they can kind of shrivel up and their body kind of cinches up," Holland said. "That's kind of how she looked."The woman, and one of the male inmates, were taken to a hospital for treatment, then returned to the jail."Once it's all over, they have no recollection of what happened," Holland said.Dr. Garry Thrasher with Oriana House said smoking or injecting the insecticide in combination with meth is very dangerous."Methamphetamines by themselves can cause psychotic behaviors, sometimes paranoia and even violence, and combining it with another substance that's abused is very problematic," Dr. Thrasher said.Both Holland and Thrasher have read about similar cases in the U.S., but the incidents documented at the jail were the first cases they've heard about locally.Dr. Thrasher urged people not to take a chance with the drug combo and stressed there are many treatment facility options for those struggling with addiction or abuse.Holland worries that others will make the foolish decision to try wasping, so he's sending out a warning about the severity of this new practice."It can be deadly for people and we don't want that to happen, but we do want to make people aware of what's going on out there," Holland said.  2212

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- For Steve and Linda Trilling, it’s a trying time: balancing fears of the coronavirus and awaiting the chance for Steve to get a kidney transplant.“Everything got pushed back,” he said.Steve is fortunate, though – he found a match in a living donor. The problem is that the coronavirus caused most hospitals to temporarily stop transplant surgeries. Steve’s wife, Linda, who is a nurse, understands why.“I want him to be off a dialysis. I want him to be healthy again,” she said. “I also want it to be in a safe atmosphere.”The issue goes beyond just waiting for surgeries to resume.Right now, more than 112,000 people are awaiting an organ transplant in the U.S., according to the Health Resources and Services Administration. While most will get an organ from a living donor, approximately one-third, 33%, of all organs used in transplants come from donors who died in motor vehicle accidents. When widespread lockdowns kept people at home and off the road this past spring, those particular organ donations dropped, as did others.David Klassen is with the United Network for Organ Sharing, a nonprofit which manages the nation’s transplantation system through a contract with the federal government.“Starting in about mid-March, organ donation really plummeted fairly abruptly and there is an approximately 50% decrease in the number of organ donors over the course of about two weeks,” Klassen said.Safety measures instituted since COVID-19 emerged include testing organ donors. Klassen remains hopeful the transplant system will begin to return to normal.“Right now, actually, the system is increasing the numbers of transplants and really things are getting fairly close back toward what we saw prior to the pandemic,” he said.However, that may also depend on where you live. Record numbers of coronavirus cases are emerging in states across the South and West, which is straining hospital resources. Just this past week, one of the largest hospital systems in Miami placed some transplant surgeries on hold.For Steve and Linda Trilling, there’s hope his dialysis may become a thing of the past.“It's been a ride, you know, trying to get myself as healthy as I can for when everything happens,” he said.He has a potential transplant surgery date set for later this summer.“We are so blessed, so blessed, that we are, that we have a donor, that we have a goal,” Linda said. “So, that is, I think, my biggest thing, is having him off this lifeline.”“Just trying to get back to normal,” Steve added.It is a normalcy that’s been missing for them far longer than for most. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s campaign says six staff members setting up for his Saturday night rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, have tested positive for coronavirus.The campaign’s communications director, Tim Murtaugh, says that “quarantine procedures” have been initiated and no staff members who tested positive will attend the event.He says no one who had immediate contact with those staffers will attend, either.Murtaugh says campaign staff members are tested for COVID-19 as part of the campaign’s safety protocols.Campaign officials say everyone who is attending the rally will be given temperature checks before they pass through security. 662

WEST CHESTER TWP., Ohio — West Chester Police are investigating a racist letter one family said was mailed to them earlier in the week. The letter, laden with racial slurs and derogatory language, demands the family take down their yard signs supporting President-elect Joe Biden and the Black Lives Matter movement.Mia Harlan said when her husband Brian opened a letter from the mail late last week, his reaction told her it wasn't a typical piece of mail."The way he responded, the way he acted, told me something wasn't right," Harlan said.The Harlans have a Black Lives Matter flag and a Biden campaign sign in their yard; the letter the couple received threatens vandalism if the signs aren't taken down.It states, in part, "if you don't take that s*** down in a hurry, we'll be aiming at your house, your cars and you."Racial slurs and expletives in the letter have been censored.Harlan said she was disgusted and angry, and the couple reported the letter to West Chester Police."Stay away from my family," she said. "Stay away from my property...what else would they do? Will they actually come to our home and try to harm us? Or try to harm our children?
