A City of Long Beach flag was stolen and replaced with a Trump campaign flag outside the city’s police department public safety building over the weekend.A padlock was placed on the flagpole by the people responsible to prevent the “Make American Great Again” flag from being removed.The department says because of the construction, access has been limited to primarily construction employees. A Georgia school decided on Thursday to reverse its decision it made earlier in the week to end the practice of students participating in the Pledge of Allegiance during all-school assemblies, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Earlier in the week, Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School said that the pledge would no longer be recited in such assemblies after some parents and students expressed concerns. The school said that it wasn't outright banning the Pledge of Allegiance from being recited during school hours, but moving the pledge to the school's classrooms. “Over the past couple of years it has become increasingly obvious that more and more of our community were choosing to not stand and/or recite the pledge," principal Lara Zelski said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "There are many emotions around this and we want everyone in our school family to start their day in a positive manner. After all, that is the whole purpose of our morning meeting.” By late Thursday, backlash from the public and public officials forced the school to reverse its decision. Georgia' Department of Education requires schools to make time for the Pledge of Allegiance, but students are not required to stand or recite it. “Students are offered the opportunity to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance," county superintendent Morcease J. Beasley told the Constitution-Journal. "If they choose to participate or not is their individual and constitutional right and the reason the flag of the United States of America exists. Anything that removes their right to choose to participate as their conscience dictates, in my opinion, is un-American and immoral.”  1740

A father and mother in Las Vegas were arrested on Feb. 28 on charges including murder, child abuse/neglect, and animal cruelty. Police were called to the couple's apartment on Feb. 25 after getting reports about possible abuse or neglect. Medical workers told police dispatchers that they were transporting a 5-month-old child to the hospital and the baby appeared to be malnourished.The baby died after being taken to the hospital.Detectives from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigated the case, and three days later arrested 29-year-old Anthony Oceja and 24-year-old Loreana Martinez. Oceja and Martinez also had two other children who were taken into protective custody and are being evaluated by medical personnel for potential health concerns. There were also three dogs in the residence that appeared to be severely malnourished. They were turned over to Clark County Animal Control. A child in Galion, Ohio tested positive for meth on Sunday, just hours after trick or treating in the small town located between Columbus and Cleveland, WBNS-TV reported. According to the Galion Police, the boy is expected to make a full recovery after suffering a seizure. The boy reportedly was sickened after playing with fake teeth that were given to him while trick or treating. The boy's father reportedly said that the boy only had a few pieces of candy before getting sick. The Galion Police has not confirmed how the boy became sick from meth, and an investigation is underway. In the meantime, the police department has issued a warning to its residents. "We encourage parents to thoroughly check any candy your children may have received before they eat it," the Galion Police Department said. An expert on Halloween sadism, Joel Best, has previously said that intentional tainting of trick or treat candy is generally rare.“There is this fear out there, and it is terribly overblown,” Best said. “They are worried that some maniac will hand them a contaminated treat, and I can’t find any evidence that has ever resulted to a death or serious injury.” 1201

A Las Vegas personal injury lawyer has been arrested in a theft case stretching back years.Beginning in March, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department detectives began to receive reports from multiple victims regarding a local personal injury lawyer. Victims that have to this date filed police reports, all allege that their personal injury attorney, later identified as 53-year-old Matthew Dunkley, misappropriated financial settlements the victims were to receive as a result of their cases in which Dunkley represented them.The reports indicated that Dunkley, in addition to misappropriating the settlements to the victims, also took money from the insurance companies that were intended to cover the victims’ medical bills. The victims never received their settlements and are now being held personally responsible for the unpaid medical bills. On Monday, Dunkley was located by detectives with the LVMPD Major Violators Section Repeat Offender Program and taken into custody. He was transported to the Clark County Detention Center where he faces at least 39 counts of theft.As of his arrest, detectives believe approximately .8 million was taken from victims.Detectives are asking any additional clients of Dunkley Law who may be awaiting settlements and were victimized by this scheme, to contact the LVMPD Theft Crimes Bureau at 702-828-3483.Clear Counsel Law Group has assumed some of the cases, but these clients may still have been victimized by Dunkley.In 2017, the Nevada bar asked Clear Counsel to assist Mr. Dunkley's former clients with open legal matters. Clear Counsel Law Group has no other relationship with Mr. Dunkley.Many of these cases were from personal injury cases that had occurred as far back as 2012, and one of the incidents involved a 5-year-old child who had been the victim of a dog attack.
