Online computer games and their related services topped the complaint list of Chinese consumers last year, followed by telecom services and mobile phones respectively, the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce (CECC) said here on Saturday.     The website www.315ts.net, which falls under the CECC, received 55,817 complaints in 2007, up 23.2 percent year on year. In total,24,634 cases were related to online products and included online sales fraud, website ID information theft and online games complaints.     The chamber said complaints about refrigerators surged 114.37 percent year on year to 761 cases, the highest annual growth rate among grievances of all electronic product items.     More than 60 companies, including LG, TCL, Haier, Fuji and Canon, were rated as outstanding enterprises in dealing with customer complaints, according to the body.     The CECC also named and shamed 40 companies that did a poor job in handling customer complaints last year. These included industry and retail sales giants such as Philips, Carrefour, Shinco and Hitachi.

DALIAN: Visiting Japanese lawmakers said on Saturday they were confident that China-Japan relations would develop further, and sport may have something to do with it."Japan and China are partners and our relations are facing good momentum of development and opportunities," Seishiro Eto, a member of the Japanese House of Representatives and former vice-minister of foreign affairs, said.During this visit to China, Eto also wore another hat: that of captain of the Japanese lawmaker soccer team. On Saturday, the team played a friendly soccer match with Chinese lawmakers in the coastal city of Dalian, Liaoning Province. The Chinese team has 35 members with an average age of 45. Most are deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) including government officials, scientists, entrepreneurs, teachers and doctors.Participants from Japan are 23 lawmakers from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, its coalition partner the New Komeito Party, the main opposition Democratic Party of Japan, the Japanese Communist Party and the People's New Party. Both sides said "soccer diplomacy" was aimed at deepening friendship. "Ping-pong diplomacy broke the ice in the Sino-US relationship during the early 1970s - and now another sport, soccer, has become a new way to improve Sino-Japanese relations," Lu Yongxiang, vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, said.Lu said China-Japan ties had entered a new phase after former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe's "ice-breaking" visit to China last October and Premier Wen Jiabao's "ice-thawing" visit to Japan this April. The game was particularly important as this year marks the 35th anniversary of the normalization of bilateral ties.He said it was the first time that NPC deputies engaged in a sports exchange with Japan. There was a push to hold a soccer match among Japanese, Chinese and South Korean lawmakers next year in Japan, as well as form a cheering squad for Japan during the next year's Beijing Olympic Games, he added.During the friendly soccer match, whenever there was a physical confrontation, players helped each other to get up and shook hands. There was no sign of aggression on the field, only smiles. At the end of the game, players took photos of each other against the background of a big screen where a message read: "friendship first, competition next".Both teams were free to change as many as players, and dangerous actions such as slide tackles were forbidden."It's indeed an easy and comfortable game," Wang Ning, a NPC deputy and professor at Ocean University of China, said.Wang said he had been looking forward to the game for a long time, and was very happy to interact with Japanese lawmakers in such a unique way.Suzuki Tsuneo, a member of the Japanese House of Representatives, said China-Japan ties had witnessed ups and downs, but were now back on track because of extensive efforts by both sides."However, I believe that no matter how the bilateral political relationship goes, friendship will last if communication and exchange among the people continue," he said.

Rising sea levels and falling river water volumes - as forecast in the latest UN report on climate change - could drastically alter weather patterns and cause huge economic losses in China, a senior meteorological official warned Thursday.Luo Yong, deputy director of the Beijing Climate Center affiliated to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), said there will be more typhoons, floods and land subsidence as a result of global warming. The report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released in Spain last Saturday said "human activities could lead to abrupt or irreversible climate changes and impacts".It said that even if factories were shut down and cars taken off roads, the average sea level will rise up to 140 cm over the next 1,000 years from the pre-industrial period of around 1850.In the next 100 years, it said, sea levels will rise by 18-51 cm.More frequent and heavy floods require China - which has an 18,000-km coastline on the mainland - "to build coastal facilities of higher standard," Luo told a press conference. As coastal regions are economically developed areas, the loss from typhoons and floods will be magnified, Luo said.He also warned that higher sea levels will lead to further land subsidence, which is already being seen in some coastal areas.Another major threat from global warming is water shortage, Luo said.In the past 50 years, the six major rivers in the country have seen their water volumes reduced sharply, especially those in the north, such as the Yellow and Huaihe rivers. Ground water storage has also dropped markedly, he added. The water shortage will take a toll on the farming sector, hurting grain production; and industrial and domestic consumption will be affected, he said.Luo said that China will possibly see more flooding in the north and drought in the south, the reverse of the current weather pattern.Song Dong, an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said next month's international talks on global warming in Bali, Indonesia, are expected to focus on greenhouse gas cuts by rich countries and the transfer of more clean technology to developing nations.

China's natural gas output would at least double the present volume in the coming decade to reach 150 billion to 200 billion cubic meters, PetroChina Vice President Jia Chengzao said on Tuesday.     PetroChina, the country's leading natural gas producer, alone has reported an annual output rise of 10 billion cubic meters for two consecutive years, he said.     "We will strive to keep the same growth rate this year," said Jia, a member of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, who is attending the annual political advisory session.     His company produces about 75 percent of China's total natural gas output.     Recent discoveries of new gas fields, including Jidong Nanpu Oil Field in north China's Bohai Bay, which contains 1.18 billion tons of oil and gas reserves, would boost China's natural gas sector and optimize its energy structure, said Jia.     "China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) will probably announce the proven reserves of the Longgang gasfield in the southwestern Sichuan Province around the end of this year," he said.     Industry insiders believe the Longgang gasfield contains at least 700 billion cubic meters of estimated reserves.     China's natural gas output reached 69.31 billion cubic meters last year, up 23.1 percent year-on-year, according to China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association.     Listed in Hong Kong and New York, PetroChina Company Limited is the listing arm of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), the largest oil producer of China.
