SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- Homicide detectives Friday were investigating the death of a man who was found unconscious in a Midway District parking lot.Dispatchers received a call around 10 p.m. Thursday from a person who reported finding the man in a parking lot in the 3700 block of Rosecrans Street, San Diego police Lt. Andra Brown said.Officers and paramedics responded to the scene and were directed to the 31-year-old victim, who had suffered trauma to his upper body, Brown said.The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:38 p.m., the lieutenant said. His name was withheld pending family notification.Police announced Monday that Zarchari Mock, 29, was arrested in connection with the homicide. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A teenage suspect was behind bars today in connection with the 7-month-old slaying of another young man in a Southcrest- area neighborhood.Raheem Malik Meals, 18, was arrested Friday on suspicion of murdering 20-year-old Ismail Abouabid on Jan. 15, according to San Diego police.Patrol officers responding to a report of a possible traffic accident in the 4000 block of Boston Avenue shortly before noon that day found Abouabid mortally wounded behind the wheel of a parked vehicle, bleeding from the head, Lt. Matt Dobbs said.Abouabid, who had recently relocated to San Diego from Erie, Pennsylvania, was pronounced dead at the scene.Witnesses told investigators three male teenagers had been with the victim just prior to his death and walked off toward a nearby park just before he was found.Police initially reported that Abouabid had been shot to death but later backed off from those statements.``The mechanism for the (victim's) injury is not being released at this time,'' Dobbs said Tuesday.The lieutenant also declined to disclose a suspected motive for the alleged slaying or reveal what led investigators to identify Meals as a suspect in the case. 1186

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego-based telemarketer was fined nearly million by the Federal Communications Commission Wednesday for making more than 47,000 robocalls over a two-day period leveling false accusations against a local state Assembly candidate and manipulating caller ID information to appear as though a competitor was making the calls.Kenneth Moser and his company, Marketing Support Systems, were fined ,997,750 for making the calls on May 30 and May 31, 2018, about one week prior to the primary election, in which Philip Graham unsuccessfully sought to represent the 76th Assembly District.Shortly before the primary, a woman accused Graham of kissing her against her will in an Encinitas bar, triggering a sheriff's department investigation that concluded the claim was unfounded. Nichole Burgan, the woman at the heart of the allegation, later pleaded guilty to filing a false report.According to the FCC, the robocall messages repeated Burgan's claim and caller ID information was manipulated to make the calls appear as though they originated from another telemarketing company, HomeyTel, described as a competitor to Moser's company. As a result, HomeyTel received "a multitude of angry complaints" from people who received the calls, as well as a cease-and-desist letter from Graham, according to the FCC.The agency said 47,610 robocalls were made during the two-day period, with multiple calls sometimes sent to the same recipients.The calls violated the Truth in Caller ID Act prohibiting manipulation of caller ID information -- otherwise known as spoofing -- with the intent to defraud, cause harm or wrongfully obtain anything of value, according to the FCC. 1697

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman who pointed what turned out to be a pellet gun at two San Diego police officers who followed her into a downtown parking structure during the Rock-N-Roll marathon is scheduled to be sentenced Friday.Mona Elease Williams, 59, pleaded guilty in September to a pair of felony counts of resisting an executive officer by threat or violence. She faces a maximum of eight years and four months in state prison.On the third day of the defendant's preliminary hearing three months ago, Deputy District Attorney Michael Runyon dismissed allegations that Williams personally used a deadly weapon in the crimes. He said that because he couldn't prove that the pellet gun was loaded, the allegations had to be dismissed.Williams -- who has convictions for burglary in 1986 and assault in 2003 and was sent to prison in 2015 -- would have faced 62 years to life behind bars if convicted as charged.The defendant's good friend, Lisa Wilson, testified that Williams texted ``death by cop'' hours before the June 3 confrontation with officers. In body-worn camera video recorded as Williams was arrested, she is seen frantically trying to explain to Officer Ronald Hamilton that she is bipolar and off her medications.``She told me she wanted to harm herself,'' Hamilton testified.
