Are you ready for fall? Dunkin' hopes you are ready as it announced on Monday that its pumpkin spice flavors will be available on Aug. 21. According to Dunkin', its stores will feature several new products: A Cinnamon Spice Pumpkin Spice Latte and Apple Cider Donuts and Munchkins donut holes. This is in addition to its lineup of pumpkin flavored coffees, pumpkin donuts and pumpkin muffins. Dunkin's release of the fall favorites might predate Starbucks' release. Starbucks, which hasn't officially announced when its pumpkin spice lattes will be available, generally makes its fall lineup available in late August. Dunkin' also announced that eight of its 12,900 locations will be converted into "Pumpkin" locations on Aug. 14. Those eight Pumpkin locations will be serving free coffee to hundreds of customers, and have pumpkin flavored products available a week early. Dunkin' will release clues to where to find its Pumpkin locations on its Instagram page. 975

California marijuana users can now turn to their smartphones to find out if a dispensary is legit. The Bureau of Cannabis Control on Thursday announced a program encouraging licensed cannabis retailers to post QR codes in their store windows. The checkerboard codes can be scanned by a cellphone camera linking the reader to the bureau’s online license bureau. That will allow consumers to verify that the store is licensed.Consumers will be able to determine which retailers ”carry products that are tracked, tested, and legal,” Bureau Chief Lori Ajax said in a statement.Officials said consumers without a QR code-enabled phone can also check a retailer’s license information by visiting the Bureau’s license search tool at 736
Bigger, busier, longer, safer -- but not faster. This was another record-breaking year for aviation. In 2018, we flew more, but safety records were higher than ever. The world's longest flight relaunched, between Singapore and New York, and the first ever direct flight took place between Australia and the UK.We got excited about the Boeing 777X, with its game-changing folding winglets, and the Beluga XL, with its humpbacked shape and smiling whale livery. We were wowed by the upcoming Jewel addition to Changi's Singapore Airport, and can't wait to book our rooms in the retro-themed TWA Hotel at JFK.Here are 624
Astronomers have detected the most massive neutron star ever, and it almost shouldn't even exist.Neutron stars are the smallest in the universe, with a diameter comparable to the size of a city like Chicago or Atlanta. They are the leftover remnants of supernovae. But they are incredibly dense, with masses bigger than that of our sun. So think of the sun, compressed into a major city.In the case of the newly detected neutron star, dubbed J0740+6620, it's 333,000 times the mass of the Earth and 2.17 times the mass of the sun. But the star is only about 15 miles across. It's 4,600 light-years from Earth. This is close to the limit of how much mass a compact object can contain before it crushes itself into a black hole. The neutron star itself is rapidly spinning, which is called a pulsar because they send out beams of radio waves from each magnetic pole. The beams mimic the sweeping motion of a lighthouse beam, hence the name "pulsar."Pulsars act like atomic clocks because they regularly pulse, so astronomers can use them to study space and time. The star was detected by the 1098
