DENVER — The deaf community in Colorado has an unusual problem with marijuana.How do you sign "endocannabinoid"?In Dank's Denver dispensary, budtenders are ready to help. But for some, placing an order is more complicated.Larry Littleton is deaf and a certified interpreter, demonstrating the difficulties as he wrote out an order for the person behind the counter."I believe that it's important for a patient to be empowered and when we don't have communication access," said Littleton.Even among other deaf people, American Sign Language isn't up to speed on weed. That's where a Boulder nonprofit, ECS Therapy Center, is stepping in to help create new cannabis-related vocabulary of signs for the deaf community.Regina Nelson is bringing together interpreters and deaf professionals to compile a video glossary."If this is the best sign for marijuana," she said, showing a sign that looks like holding a joint to her mouth, "it's really not appropriate to cannabis and cannabis oil and these other things."Nelson hopes to finish the glossary next year and as it goes into informal use, she says she hopes to eventually petition the Sign Language Academy to add it to the official lexicon.  "As a social scientist, language is what normalizes things and so to help empower the deaf community to develop language around this is what will help normalize medical cannabis use," she said.The group of volunteers is touring grows and dispensaries this week to learn about the industry and hoping to make it more ADA friendly. DETROIT — Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan was packed with people for Michelle Obama’s book tour Tuesday night.Although, before she hit the big stage, the former first lady made a visit to the famous Motown Museum, where a group of college students were surprised when she walked through the door.The group of teenagers, ages 18 and younger, all attend Wayne State University. They were at a forum to discuss various topics such as education, culture issues, goals and overcoming obstacles.The event moderator was actor, comedian and Detroit-native Keegan-Michael Key. DETROIT (AP) — Ford is recalling more than 375,000 Explorer SUVs in the U.S. and Canada to fix a suspension problem that has caused 13 crashes. The recall covers SUVs from the 2013 through 2017 model years built at Ford's Chicago Assembly Plant from Sept. 4, 2012, to Jan. 25, 2017. They were sold or registered in 22 states and six Canadian provinces where salt is used to clear roads during the winter. The automaker says the rear toe links can fracture, reducing steering control. A toe link puts weight on the tires so they stay on the ground. Ford says six people were hurt in the crashes. Dealers will inspect the suspension and replace parts if necessary. Customers will be notified starting the week of Nov. 30. 727

DEHESA, Calif. (CNS) - A man was killed Monday morning when his car struck a fire hydrant and overturned off the side of a rural road east of El Cajon.The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on Dehesa Road, west of Sloane Canyon Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow said.The driver was westbound on Dehesa Road when, for unknown reasons, his 2001 Toyota Camry crossed into the eastbound lanes, then struck a fire hydrant on the south side of the road and overturned, Garrow said.The motorist, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, the officer said. 601

Democratic lawmakers are calling for Congress to rein in Big Tech, possibly forcing Facebook, Google, Amazon and Apple to sever their dominant platforms from their other lines of business and imposing new uniformity on the terms they offer users. The proposals in a report issued Tuesday follow an investigation by a House Judiciary Committee panel into the companies’ market dominance. Those kinds of forced breakups through a legislative overhaul would be a radical step for Congress to take toward a powerful industry that has come under intensifying scrutiny over issues of competition, consumer privacy and hate speech."To put it simply, companies that once were scrappy, underdog startups that challenged the status quo have become the kinds of monopolies we last saw in the era of oil barons and railroad tycoons," the committee's report reads. "Although these firms have delivered clear benefits to society, the dominance of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google has come at a price.
