The fatal New York City helicopter crash that killed everyone on board except the pilot may have been caused by a passenger's piece of luggage, the pilot told investigators.The pilot said one of the passenger's bags may have inadvertently hit the emergency fuel shutoff button, leading to the crash that killed five passengers, a senior law enforcement official said.The National Transportation Safety Board will try to determine the cause of the Sunday evening crash, the Federal Aviation Administration said. The Florida Highway Patrol said 30-to-40 vehicles have flat tires Monday morning on Interstate 95 northbound from Lantana Road to the Okeechobee Boulevard exit in West Palm Beach. The vehicles have flat tires due to metal debris in the road from a semi.All of the vehicles are off to the side of the interstate.Scripps station WPTV in West Palm Beach flew over the area and did not spot any lane closures, but traffic is traveling slow in the area.Drivers should avoid using I-95 northbound in this area until all of the debris is cleaned up.  596

The FBI is warning financial institutions that their ATMs could be targeted in a hacking attempt.The threat was reported Sunday by Krebs On Security, a popular cybersecurity blog run by the journalist Brian Krebs.Krebs reported that the scheme is known as an "ATM cash-out," which means the attackers can hack a bank or payment card processor and use stolen information to withdraw large sums of money at ATMs worldwide. His report cited a confidential alert the FBI shared with banks last Friday.The FBI did not comment specifically on this potential attack. In a statement to CNN, a spokeswoman said that "in furtherance of public-private partnerships, the FBI routinely advises private industry of various cyber threat indicators observed during the course of our investigations.""This data is provided in order to help systems administrators guard against the actions of persistent cyber criminals," the spokeswoman said.CNN reached out to two major banks, Wells Fargo and JPMorgan Chase, both of which declined to comment.Krebs has reported on similar "unlimited operations" before, including a scheme in which more than million was stolen from a Virginia bank in 2016 and 2017.The alert, called a private industry notification, was sent to a narrow group of cybersecurity professionals and system administrators at financial firms that had assets at risk, according to a federal law enforcement official.Though the FBI at times makes PSAs for significant cybersecurity threats, like when they told the public in May to reboot certain internet routers after a malware attack, no wider notification was made about the ATM scheme. 1659

The death toll in a series of wildfires in California, Oregon and Washington rose to 36 as officials warn that an already-historic fire season is "far from over."As of Tuesday morning, wildfires have killed 25 people in California, 10 people in Oregon and one person in Washington dating back to mid-August.Fifteen people alone have died in California's North Complex Fire, which is currently burning in the Sierra Nevada mountains north of Sacramento. According to Cal Fire, the fire which has been burning for nearly a month, is currently 39% contained.In Oregon, the Beachie Creek fire and the Alameda Fire have each killed four people in recent days. The Beachie Creek fire, currently burning in the northern part of the state since Aug. 16, is 15% contained. The Alameda Fire is 100% contained, according to the Oregon wildfire dashboard.Though 2020 has already marked a record-setting year for wildfires in the western U.S., officials are bracing for more damage in the coming weeks. Wildfire season typically lasts through the end of October on the West Coast."We've had major destruction and, even sadly, two dozen fatalities already and we still have several months to go in our fire season here.
