A wave of construction will bring thousands of new apartments to downtown in the next few years. As those complexes start to open, they could bring relief to San Diego's housing crisis.This July, Park 12 will be the biggest to open, adding 718 units to the downtown area. The complex features three buildings, including a 37 story tower. Jerry Brand, with developer Greystar, says they wanted to go big in downtown because they see the area going through tremendous growth."Last year, San Diego had the largest employment growth in CA as a city. It was about 30,000 jobs, and that doesn't include the military," Brand says. "That creates housing demand, so we're seeing continued demand in the future."Other developers agree. According to Civic San Diego's 2017 Downtown Development Report, there were 1,014 new apartments completed in downtown in 2017. That's the third most since 2001. The report shows another 10,561 apartments either under construction, waiting to be built, or waiting for approval.Little Italy is one of the fastest growing areas. Projects like Luma, AV 8, Amo and Vici will add nearly 600 apartments to the area by the start of 2019."This is the most dynamic neighborhood in San Diego," says Rich Gustafson, the President of CityMark Development. They're putting the finishing touches on AV8, which will have 133 units."The demand is there," he says. "San Diego, in general, is slow in providing the housing supply, but we're doing the best that we can in Little Italy."It's not just apartments. Across Downtown, Civic San Diego says there are 1,213 condominiums either under construction or in the planning stages. Actor Dwayne Johnson is among the investors who submitted a winning bid for the XFL — the professional football league which was in the midst of its first season when the COVID-19 pandemic cut it short.Johnson, Dany Garcia and RedBird Capital Partners combined to purchase the league for million, according to the press release. The sale is subject to bankruptcy court approval at a hearing on Friday.“The acquisition of the XFL ... is an investment for me that’s rooted deeply in two things - my passion for the game and my desire to always take care of the fans,” Johnson said in a statement. “With pride and gratitude for all that I’ve built with my own two hands, I plan to apply these callouses to the XFL, and look forward to creating something special for the players, fans, and everyone involved for the love of football.”Prior to joining WWE, Johnson played college football at the University of Miami, where he won a national championship in 1991. He later played professionally for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League for one season.The XFL kicked off its inaugural season earlier this year with the goal of serving as a springtime development league for NFL hopefuls. The league consisted of eight teams, mainly composed of former college and NFL players. A Washington man who followed the Pittsburgh synagogue suspect on social media was arrested on gun charges after his relatives reached out to authorities, federal court documents show.Jeffrey R. Clark Jr. was charged Tuesday with illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine and transporting a firearm in interstate commerce.Clark's family members tipped off authorities after they grew concerned over his involvement with the so-called alt-right movement, an affidavit says. It said he was "friends" with synagogue shooting suspect Robert Bowers on Gab, a social media platform that describes itself as "the free speech social network."On October 27, within hours of the attack that killed 11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Clark's brother, Edward, went to Theodore Roosevelt Island in Washington and fatally shot himself, the affidavit says."After the death of Edward Clark, Jeffrey Clark became more outspoken about his radical views, expressing them openly to his family members who were in the area following Edward Clark's death," the affidavit says. "During these conversations, Jeffrey Clark defended Robert Bowers' killings at the Tree-of-Life Synagogue. Jeffrey Clark also stated that he and Edward Clark had both fantasized about killing 'Jews and blacks.' "A few days after the suicide, two family members called federal authorities and said Jeffrey Clark had been "really riled up" and "agitated" after his brother's death, and he could be a danger to himself or others, the affidavit says. 1534

AKRON, N.Y. – 2020 has been a bit of roller coaster and for some, there's been more downs than ups.Before the pandemic, a roller coaster is exactly where you could find Eric Hall and his family. One summer day in 2019, something was getting in the way of his ride.“The guy did everything he could to get me in,” recalled Hall. “Which was not only super humiliating and humbling, but obviously at the same time it was very eye opening for me because something that I love to do, especially with my family, now my weight and my health was restricting me from doing that.”Hall knew he needed to change. But changing takes time, time he didn't think he had.“Prior to the pandemic, I was kind of hoping for more work from home, that's not necessarily what I had in mind was this,” said Hall.With an opportunity to be more healthy.
