SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man is in custody after a chase ended in a standoff with police at a Mission Bay Motel Sunday morning. Police say the chase started just before 9 a.m. at the A-1 Storage on Garnett Avenue after officers received a citizens' tip. The suspect driving a U-Haul truck led police on a short chase to the 4300 block of Mission Bay Drive near Roadway in San Diego.According to police, the man is wanted on felony weapons charges. After the chase ended, a woman in the passenger seat was detained while the driver ran into the nearby motel. The woman was later released. While searching for the suspect throughout the motel, officers learned that the man broke through several walls to try and escape. “This guy starts forcing himself into apartments, and now we have to deal with a possible hostage situation. That’s the reason why we brought so many resources down here. We wanted to get this guy into custody as fast as we can," Lt. Christian Sharp with the San Diego Police Department said. Eventually, police had to use chemical gas and a K-9 to apprehend the suspect, who has yet to be identified.  1166

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A new COVID-19 testing site opened Wednesday morning at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, with tests for the virus available at no cost.The free test site is located at the PedEast crossing of the Port of Entry. It will be open 6:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., Monday through Friday.About 200 tests will be administered daily, and no appointments will be necessary. San Diego County health officials said those getting tested “will not be asked about their immigration status or who lives with them.”Health officials said the site is focused on “testing essential workers and American citizens who live in Tijuana, as well as residents in the area.”Jennifer Bransford-Koons, the county’s testing director, said it’s possible the hours at the new site could eventually change.“We’re starting out first thing in the morning as people cross the border … to be able to see if that’s a good time to have people to be able to test. If that doesn’t work, then we’ll move to the afternoon or other days of the week. The purpose is to provide accessible testing to members of the public,” she said.County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said, “We know that communities in South Bay have been hit the hardest by COVID-19. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new reality television series focused on the day-to-day operation and conservation efforts of the San Diego Zoo will premiere Aug. 10 on Animal Planet.The cable channel had two crews shoot five days a week for more than four months to capture behind-the-scenes video at the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Cameras were allowed into locations rarely seen by the general public, including inside the veterinary hospitals at the two sites."A lot of people don't know all that goes on behind the scenes and this show is basically that opportunity for anybody to peek in and spend time behind the scenes with the keepers," said San Diego Zoo Ambassador Rick Schwartz.There will be ten episodes, each an hour long. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A missing 16-year-old girl from Mira Mesa has been found after disappearing November 8. Cirena was found late Monday afternoon walking on a street in Salton City. A good Samaritan who saw news reports approached the 16-year-old and asked if she wanted to go to the police station, the family says. As of Tuesday morning, the family told 10News she was back home and healthy. After she went missing, the family says a missing persons report was filed. Days later, family members found Cirena’s phone tossed a few blocks away between two homes.
