El Cajon (KGTV)- An El Cajon Family is on the edge after a man tried to break into their home through their toddler’s bedroom. The family lives off Chase Avenue. Liz Jasiak says she noticed a handprint on her son’s bedroom window on Christmas Eve. When she went outside, there was a latex glove sitting behind the trash bins, near the window, in their backyard. “You have this little person who is depending on you to take care of them and their safety,” says Jasiak. “So it's definitely a sense of violation.”Surveillance video shows the man walking up to the home and lingering on the front porch moments after she leaves to take her son to daycare. The video then shows the man leaving but returns and disappears on the other side of the home. “It’s kind of creepy to think that someone was watching my habits or my moves because the moment we left he immediately enters our yard, says Jasiak.”The family says multiple screens to the windows of their home were cut around the same time the suspect tried to break in. The family has reported the crime to the El Cajon Police Department. They say they will be adding extra security to their home. 1156

Due to the ongoing pandemic, a record number of people have cast their ballots early for the general election, but many will still head to the polls on Tuesday.If you plan on voting in person on Election Day, there are steps you can take to protect yourself and those around you from COVID-19.As cases spike around the country, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released a list of tips for voters to reduce the spread of the coronavirus at the polls.The CDC says the more prepared you are, the more you reduce your risk of getting and spreading the virus.Bring your own suppliesThe CDC recommends bringing the following with you when you head to your polling place: Necessary documentation such as your ID, a mask and back-up mask, tissues, hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, water, black ink pen, and any prepared items like registration forms or sample ballots.Wear a maskThe CDC says you should wear a mask consistently and correctly in public or if you’re around people who you don’t live with. If you must take your mask off, use hand sanitizer before and after. Having an extra mask is helpful if yours gets wet or dirty.Note: A few people might not be able to wear a mask, because of a disability or condition.Keep your distance from othersThe CDC suggests staying at least 6 feet from other people as much as you can. That’s about two arms’ lengths. You should stay that far apart even if you’re wearing masks.Clean your hands oftenThe CDC says to wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer before entering and after leaving your election site. Officials also suggest using a sanitizer after touching items that many others may have touched, such as door handles.The CDC says not to wipe down voting equipment yourself unless you are told to do so. It could damage the equipment. Officials also say to make sure your hands are completely dry from sanitizer before touching the equipment.Protect yourself when using transportWhen using any kind of public transport, the CDC suggests wearing a mask, avoid touching things if you can and using sanitizer if you do, staying 6 feet apart from others, and open windows when possible.Avoid crowdsTo help avoid crowds, the CDC says you should try voting at non-peak times, such as mid-morning. (KGTV) -- Some parents are upset after a document from the Cajon Valley Union School District was accidentally shared.Cajon Valley Union School District Superintendent David Miyashiro said an employee’s notes taken during a weekend planning summit -- which included the teachers union, school board members, and district management -- were inadvertently released.Under one of the sections in the notes is language describing parents as “stay at home mom, do not want to teach their kids,” as well as references to some parents being “right-wing” and “not all believe this is real and believe it will be finished by August.”Several parents obtained the document and were upset with how they were described. Demanding answers, some parents showed up at a closed-door district meeting on Tuesday evening where reopening plans were being discussed.Miyashiro sent 10News this statement on the matter: “I've both apologized to the parent community on our behalf and also addressed this with the employee. They weren't meant for public view but there's no excuse ... we don't speak about anyone that way.”Parents who spoke to 10News about the notes said they want something to come out of this situation, whether it’s training or education for staff members."The trust has been lost; the trust between parents and the school district. Trust between parents and superintendent, trust between parents and the board, I think. That's the feeling I get,” one parent said.The district, made up of 16 elementary schools and five middles schools, serves over 17,000 students in various communities in and around El Cajon. 1631

Efforts to build a House of Mexico in Balboa Park's International Cottage area are nearing a critical deadline for fundraising. The group needs to raise 0,000 by the end of the month, or they may have to abandon their plans."We've been on this journey for a long time," says House of Mexico President Sonia Ruiz.The City Council approved plans in 2016 to add 9 "houses" to the cottage area, representing Mexico, the Philippines, Peru, Panama, Korea, India, Palestine, Turkey and Lebanon. They'll share five new buildings. But cost estimates for construction have risen considerably since the approval.Ruiz says it looks like each House will need to pay about a half million dollars for their share of construction."We got the permits back in November," she says. "If we don't start construction within 180 days, we lose the permit."Ruiz adds that applying for a new construction permit would be time consuming and expensive.The House of Mexico was one of the original members of Balboa Park's House of Nations in 1935. But they left the group in 1941. Aside from one year, they didn't re-join until 2004.Since then, the House of Mexico has operated as a non-profit group. They've held numerous events at Balboa Park to showcase Mexican culture. But a physical building would help them expand their mission."We could offer Spanish classes, cooking classes, dance classes," Ruiz says. "We want to have rotating art and culture exhibits in the house."People around Balboa Park were surprised to learn that San Diego's closest international neighbor didn't have its own building among the houses."It's pretty astonishing," says Mark Levy, who walks through the park every day. "We should definitely build that before we put up a wall.""We're so close," says park visitor Pati Stives. "We're such a small world at the end of the day. We are neighbors; they should be here."The House of Mexico is trying to raise the money by the end of May. They have a button on their website for donations, and they're also selling bracelets that say "I Love Mexico" at events. The bracelets are each, a sign of how they want the fundraising to be a community-wide effort."My hope is that we can build this house with small donations by community members," says Ruiz. During a quarterly call with shareholders Wednesday, Papa John's CEO John Schnatter cited national anthem protests in the NFL as one of the reasons for the company's falling stock price.According to ESPN, Schnatter also took veiled shots at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for not putting a stop to the anthem protests."Leadership starts at the top and this is an example of poor leadership," Schnatter said.
