CLEVELAND, Ohio - We’re a little over a month away from Thanksgiving and health officials are more concerned than ever thinking about spiking coronavirus cases as families may be planning to gather for the holiday.“We had seen a decrease in cases from our peak, of course, which was in July and we were down into the 40s per day of receiving cases until the mid-last week. Then it started to go up from there," said Romona Brazile, Interim Co-Director of Prevention and Wellness Services at Cuyahoga County Board of Health. "Of course, we want to see our families, but limiting the number of people, still trying to practice social distancing even if it is in your own home, still wearing a mask."Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease agrees. His own family is now sacrificing not seeing each other as his children worry about his age and possible exposure to the virus.“Don't assume that because you're in your own home with your own family that you're not going to spread infection,” he said.Even traveling to see our families is risky. Dr. Fauci said travel on planes and public transportation could increase exposure to the virus.Instead, the CDC is offering up some suggestions on ways you can still have a holiday celebration with friends and family while being safe.The agency said celebrating virtually is your best bet, but if you do meet up in person make sure you stay outside as much as possible and avoid crowds. The CDC also said gatherings with more preventive measures in place pose less risk compared to gatherings with fewer or no preventive measures at all.After any holiday celebrations, you should stay at home as much as possible, avoid crowds and those considered at risk. Country star Jason Aldean was performing when a gunman began firing on the crowd from inside Mandalay Bay. Now, Aldean is opening up about how he's been coping since the tragedy of Oct. 1, 2017.  "I think you go through a lot of different emotions of being thankful that none of your family and friends was injured. And then you feel guilty," said Aldean. "Those people are there to see your show so that's awful."Since that dreadful night in October, Aldean has struggled with the complexity of his feelings about surviving the country's deadliest mass shooting in modern history.  "And then you start doing that thing, like, 'Man, did that really happen. Did that really happen to us?' It seems so crazy. Like how could that even be a thing?"Aldean said his wife and crew were a great comfort to him, but it was visiting the injured in the hospital and the birth of his son that put things in perspective. "That helped. Going back to the hospital, going back to Vegas and seeing those people. Seeing some of the strength they were having," said Aldean. " People laid up in the hospital and smiling and laughing and just being glad they were alive."His son was born exactly two months after the Las Vegas shooting."Really to me, he just gave me something else to focus on. Comet NEOWISE may be on its way out, but that doesn't mean that the night sky's light show is set to end.According to the American Meteor Society, two meteor showers are set to peak in the coming days, which could result in several fireballs that light up the sky.One of those showers is the Southern Delta-Aquariids, which, according to NASA, are typically visible between July 12 and Aug. 23. But the agency reports that the system will peak in activity early Monday morning.At its viewing peak — in the southern hemisphere on a clear dark night — the Southern Delta-Aquariids can produce up to 25 meteors an hour, NASA says. Unfortunately, Americans won't be able to see that many fireballs, but experts still say some may still be visible — especially for those with minimal light pollution and clear skies.NASA says the Southern Delta-Aquariids will be most visible between moonset and first dawn on early Monday morning.The American Meteor Society also reports that the Alpha Capricornids will also peak early next week. While the AMS notes that the shower isn't particularly strong (about five meteors an hour), the meteors it does produce are particularly bright and visible.The AMS says the Alpha Capricornids will peak Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.According to the Associated Press, Comet NEOWISE will be visible in the night sky through mid-August before it heads back out toward the outer solar system. 1430

CLEVELAND — Scientists at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute have successfully reversed Alzheimer's disease in mice.According to a news release, the researchers reversed the formation of harmful plaque in the mice's brains by gradually reducing an enzyme called BACE1, improving their mental function.“To our knowledge, this is the first observation of such a dramatic reversal of amyloid deposition in any study of Alzheimer’s disease mouse models,” says Riqiang Yan, one of the scientists on the team. The study raises hopes that drugs aimed at this same enzyme will soon be able to treat Alzheimer's disease in humans. You can read the full study in the Journal of Experimental Medicine here. 735

CLEVELAND — Who’s been at a store buying holiday gifts and then the cashier asks, “do you want to sign up for our credit card today?” They might offer a discount or something else, but should you sign on the dotted line?“They make it easy. They really make it easy,” Leanne Smith said.Smith is from Solon and knows how stores can tempt you with their credit cards, but she’s sticking to her Target Red Card for now.“I don’t think it’s a responsible thing for me to have one at every store,” she said.Tedd Rossman from CreditCards.com said that if you ever plan on carrying a balance, store cards aren’t going to be the best option for you.“While sometimes these store cards can work for you, most of the time, they’re not the most consumer-friendly option,” Rossman said.That’s because Rossman says the average store credit card has an interest rate of 25%, some as high as 29.99% such as Discount Tire, Big Lots and jewelry store cards like Kay Jewelers.“These cards are not as selective about credit quality, which is why the retailers and their bank partners say they have to charge such high-interest rates,” Rossman said.CreditCardInsider.com recently rated various popular store cards based on various things like interest rates.Here are those results:Target - 24.4%Old navy - almost 26% (25.99%)Walmart - roughly 18-27% (17.99%-26.99%) interestNathan Grant from CreditCardInsider.com said you shouldn’t just sign-up at the checkout on a whim even if there’s a discount offered or cashback incentives.“The percentage of interest you’re paying might end up calculating to be more than what you got from spending on the cards,” Grant said.According to Grant, some of the better retailer cards are:Amazon prime cards with lower interest rates—5% back on Amazon purchases and gift cards when you sign up.
