NASHVILLE, Tenn. — NewsChannel 5 has partnered with the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT) to establish the “Nashville Neighbors Fund” to support downtown residents and businesses affected by the Christmas Day explosion along the riverfront. The explosion, which was felt across much of Middle Tennessee, injured at least three and caused extensive damage to multiple buildings.The CFMT said grants from the Nashville Neighbors Fund will be made to nonprofits providing services for both the immediate and long-term needs arising from the explosion.“Our work helps free nonprofits up to concentrate on delivering vital services while we 'connect generosity with need' and our community sets out to rebuild. MURRIETA, Calif. (KGTV) - A U.S. Marine and a young woman were arrested Wednesday for the death of a man whose remains were found in Joshua Tree National Park.Curtis Krueger, 30, was taken into custody near Twentynine Palms Air-Ground Combat Center. Ashlie Stapp, 27, was arrested on the campus of Copper Mountain Community College in Joshua Tree, KABC reported.Investigators said Krueger and Stapp killed 54-year-old Henry Stange. His partially covered remains were found June 2 in a shallow grave in Joshua Tree National Park.The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department determined the crime scene was located in the city of Murrieta.Police did not immediately announce a connection between the two suspects or a motive for Stange’s death.Krueger and Stapp are charged with Homicide and Conspiracy. 810

Hughley announced he's tested positive for COVID-19, following his collapse onstage during a performance in Nashville, Tennessee.In a video posted to Twitter on Saturday, Hughley said he was tested while being treated for exhaustion and dehydration after passing out at Zanies on Friday.He said the COVID-19 diagnosis was surprising because he was otherwise asymptomatic. NASSAU COUNTY, Long Island — A man allegedly faked his own death in order to avoid being sentenced in two open cases, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's office.Officials said Robert Berger, 25, used his attorney to provide a county prosecutor with a fake death certificate. The document had typos, which tipped off officials, according to the statement from the DA's office.“Typos and formatting errors gave up what we allege is a forged death certificated that this defendant used to avoid accountability for other crimes,” District Attorney Madeline Singas said in the statement released this week. “Submitting fake documents to prosecutors is always a bad idea, and while he’d have been caught regardless, failure to use spell check made this alleged fraud especially glaring.”In 2018, officials said Berger pleaded guilty to charges related to his possession of a stolen Lexus; he also pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny for attempting to steal a pickup truck.On Oct. 22, 2019, attorneys for Berger told the court their client had died and provided the court with a New Jersey Death Certificate, stating the defendant died by suicide.The attorney said Berger's fiancé provided them with the document.Upon inspection of the certificate, officials said the font size and type were not consistent in the document, and the word “Registry” in the department name was misspelled as “Regsitry."After calling to verify the certificate with officials in New Jersey, investigators confirmed the certificate was fraudulent.A copy of the false death certificate was also provided to officials in Suffolk County, where Berger also had a pending criminal case, officials said.After the discovery, Berger was arrested on Nov. 14, 2019, in Pennsylvania and was held for charges including providing a false identity to law enforcement.Berger was arraigned Tuesday and is due back in court on July 29. These kids and their parents are having to make the effort to find a routine that works.Mother Kim Alvidrez says she has her twin 6-year-olds treat school from home the same way they would if they were heading to class. That includes having breakfast and breaks at the same time.She sees frustration in her kids for not having one-on-one teacher help and not being around other students.“It’s hard, as a mom to watch your kids. They want it. They want to be there, and they want to be involved but they can’t fully participate,” said Alvidrez. “It’s just their presence that’s counted. And that’s their time. That’s my biggest concern. “Alvidrez says her kids are kept silent during Zoom lessons and are encouraged to not ask questions. If questions are asked, she says it’s limited to one or two.Child psychologists say parents need to work through those struggles and remain positive to help create a better learning environment.“The number one way kids learn is by watching what their parents do,” said Dr. Jessica Hawks, a child psychologist at Children's Hospital Colorado. “So, if a parent can present an optimistic and positive about the fact that their child's in online schooling, the child's more likely to embrace that philosophy and mentality and can really be helpful overall to the engagement.”Hawks says parents also need positive routines for kids, which include proper eating and sleep habits, along with a designated area for kids to do their online work.As for Alvidrez, she says one positive is her twins are in the same class. 1665
