Victoria's Secret CEO Jan Singer has resigned amid a sales slump and competition from young companies challenging the brand's grip on the lingerie industry.The Wall Street Journal first reported Singer's departure last week. Victoria's Secret parent company L Brands (LB) made it official during its quarterly earnings release.John Mehas, now the president of Tory Burch, will take over as CEO of Victoria's Secret Lingerie early next year, the company said.Sales at Victoria's Secret stores that have been open for at least a year dropped 6% last quarter. Victoria's Secret has close to 1,000 stores in the United States, many of them tied to struggling malls.Last year, Victoria Secret's same-store sales in North America fell 8% in part because of the company's decision to stop selling swimwear and clothing."Our number one priority is improving performance at Victoria's Secret Lingerie and PINK," said Leslie Wexner, Chairman and CEO of L Brands. "We could not be more excited for [Mehas] to lead Victoria's Secret Lingerie to a new phase of success."Singer took over in 2016 after a stint at Spanx. Flashy fashion shows, push-up bras and celebrity models aren't drawing people in like they used to. Instead, women are clamoring for more products with a better fit.Online stores like ThirdLove, Lively and True & Co. are using tech and harnessing data to offer custom sizes and new products.Other parts of the L Brands business have been struggling. The company announced in September that it is closing Bendel's website and all 23 of its stores, including the store's iconic Fifth Avenue location in New York, in January 2019 because of sluggish sales.A change in Victoria's Secret leadership may not be enough to convince experts that L Brands is turning itself around."Jan was not the problem," Jefferies analyst Randal Konik wrote last week following rumors of Singer's exit. UPDATE 2 p.m., Apr. 18: Lifeguards removed the shark advisory signs at Silver Strand.SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Lifeguards warned beachgoers in Silver Strand after several agencies spotted a shark they say could be a great white off the coast Wednesday. According to authorities, the shark was initially spotted by Border Patrol agents in a helicopter above Imperial Beach around 10:30 a.m. The shark was also spotted by a lifeguard in a boat approximately two miles off the coast of Imperial Beach. RELATED: New shark detecting technology being testedThe shark is believed to be between seven and eight foot long. Lifeguards in Imperial Beach say they believe the shark could be a great white. The shark was again seen about half a mile off the coast of Silver Strand, prompting lifeguards to warn beachgoers. Lifeguards chose not to issue a formal public warning because the shark was of moderate size, wasn't behaving aggressively and was in an area with few people nearby, City News Service reports. In the same message, Schwindt wrote that she was possibly drugged and assaulted.ABC 10News spoke with Schwindt's friend, Krystle Hudnell. TUCSON, Ariz. - An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper intentionally collided with a wrong-way vehicle on Oct. 14.According to DPS, a trooper was assisting a stranded driver on the I-10 near Avra Valley. The trooper heard reports of a wrong-way vehicle traveling east within the westbound traffic lanes on I-10.The trooper found the wrong-way vehicle, approaching the car head-on near Cortaro Road. The trooper intentionally aligned the front left corner of his patrol vehicle with the front left corner of the wrong-way vehicle - forcing a collision that immediately stopped the wrong-way driver.DPS said the wrong-way driver was a disoriented, elderly woman. She was not properly restrained during the collision and sustained non-life threatening injuries. She was taken to Banner University Medical Center.The trooper was treated for minor injuries.“The ability of our trooper to assess the situation and take decisive action to stop the wrong-way vehicle, protected the lives of many motorists while endangering his own," said DPS Director, Colonel Frank Milstead. "I am proud of our brave trooper and pray he makes a full recovery and never has to face another wrong-way in his life.”  1216

Twitter has suspended far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones from its platform for one week.The news was first shared by an InfoWars personality, who tweeted a screenshot of Jones' Twitter account -- indicating the company limited some of Jones' account features temporarily.A Twitter spokesperson confirmed the authenticity of the screenshot. The spokesperson said the content which prompted Twitter to suspend Jones was a video published Tuesday in which he said, "now is time to act on the enemy before they do a false flag."On Friday, one day after a CNN investigation found that Jones' Twitter accounts appeared to have repeatedly violated the company's rules, Twitter said the accounts belonging to Jones and his fringe media organization InfoWars would remain online.At the time, a Twitter spokesperson said the company concluded that of the more than a dozen tweets included in CNN's Thursday report, seven were found to have violated Twitter's rules. Twitter would have required those tweets to be deleted, if they were to have remained up.But after CNN's investigation was published, the tweets cited in it were almost immediately deleted from the social media website. Jones said on his program that he had instructed his staff to do so and "take the super high road," though he contested whether the tweets violated any Twitter rules.Twitter is one of the only major social media companies that has not scrubbed its platform of Jones or InfoWars. Recently, Jones has seen the vast majority of the social media infrastructure for his media empire crumble.
