(KGTV) - A Camp Pendleton Marine is suspected of shooting and killing his estranged wife at a home in Laguna Hills, Orange County Sheriff's Detectives said Friday.Jerel Boykins, 26, was detained by Marine Corps NCIS on base Thursday afternoon, just hours after deputies found his wife's body.Deputies were conducting a welfare check at the home on Via Lomas in Laguna Hills when they discovered the 23-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds.Boykins is being held at the Orange County Jail in lieu of million bail.Anyone with information should call Orange County Crimestoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.  646

LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - The U.S Army Corps of Engineers will begin a remedial search for explosives in the area around U.C. San Diego, which was formerly used as a Marine artillery range.Over the years, munitions and debris have been found in the area though none of them have been live explosives.However, Harry Hendler, the project manager with the Army Corp warns, “there’s always a potential for having some type of risk of explosion or detonation.”The goal of the search is to assess the current risk in undeveloped land. In some states, more than half of prisoners have been infected, according to data collected by The Associated Press and The Marshall Project. As the pandemic enters its 10th month — and as the first Americans begin to receive a long-awaited COVID-19 vaccine — at least 275,000 prisoners have been infected and more than 1,700 have died. New cases in prisons this week reached their highest level since testing began in the spring, far outstripping previous peaks in April and August.“That number is a vast undercount,” said Homer Venters, the former chief medical officer at New York’s Rikers Island jail complex.Venters has conducted more than a dozen court-ordered COVID-19 prison inspections around the country. “I still encounter prisons and jails where, when people get sick, not only are they not tested but they don’t receive care. LA MESA (CNS) - A 29-year-old man was shot multiple times and died in a La Mesa shopping center, police said Saturday.The shooting happened at 9:38 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Marketplace at Lake Murray Village, 5600 Lake Murray Blvd., according to Lt. Greg Runge of the La Mesa Police Department.Police received multiple calls of gunshots heard in the parking lot, Runge said. One caller reported seeing a victim down on the ground."Responding officers located the unresponsive victim and discovered he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso," Runge said.Officers began CPR and rendered aid until medics arrived, the lieutenant said.
