Facebook says it has removed nearly 200 social media accounts linked to white supremacy groups planning to rally members to show up at protests over police killings of black people - in some cases with weapons. The Facebook and Instagram users were associated with the Proud Boys and American Guard, two racist groups already banned on Facebook. Facebook officials said Friday the platform was already planning to remove the accounts for violating its ban on hate groups but decided to act when the groups attempted to exploit the protests prompted by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. 611
He may be 102 years old, but John Sekulich has the energy to tell you stories about his time in the Army during World War II until you’re blue in the face.“A lot of things happen during the war, you know?” Sekulich says from his home in a Denver suburb. “A lot of crazy things.”He could tell you about working throughout the nights, in blackout conditions, repairing U.S. communication lines cut by the Germans. He could tell you about the time fellow soldiers ran over a nearby hill to warn him of German troops that had just killed dozens of Americans. “Rain, shine or snow, didn’t matter,” he says. “We were out there, trying to repair them lines.”But the story he remembers better than any other was from his trip home, after the war had ended. His father was critically ill, and the military arranged a special flight so he could get home faster.Except the flight—from Greenland to New York-- came eerily close to crash and landing in the Atlantic.“One engine went out,” Sekulich recalls. “So, we’re flying along and about noon, the second engine went out.”But despite only having two of the four engines on that bomber, they landed safely. It was his final memory of the war, and it’s one that now—almost 75 years later—he’ll get to re-live.Thanks to Colorado-based non-profit 1294

From the government to nonprofits and individuals, there are so many people helping older adults dealing with isolation and loneliness right now. However, the Radio Recliner may be one of the most unique projects out there. It's a pirate radio station run strictly by retirees.“There’s one guy who used the music to talk about his favorite snacks he had in World War II and how he was able to get those,” said Mitch Bennett, Chief Creative Officer of Luckie, the brand behind Radio Recliner. The show launched in April and only planned to go for about a month, but demand and response was so overwhelming that it's still going strong with no plans to end anytime soon.“The thing that touches me the most is we ask each DJ to give some advice to others how should they stay positive through these times,” said Bennett. “Try to look at the good things in your life and appreciate what you have and let’s listen to some gospel music,” said one DJ.People can sign up to be a resident DJ or you can call and record requests and make dedications.
