Police in Northern California say a nurse driving home from her shift at a hospital was assaulted after she encountered a group of protesters who say she intentionally drove into the crowd. Santa Rosa police say they are investigating but add that video evidence does not show that the woman purposely drove into about 100 people marching Saturday night. The woman told officers she was punched in the face by a man who followed her after she drove away from a “swarm” of people blocking her vehicle. Protesters initially said a teenager on a bicycle had been injured but no victims have come forward to police."SRPD officers met with several protesters who believed that the driver of the SUV intentionally drove through the crowd. There was some discrepancy as to how fast the vehicle was driving. Several protesters provided video footage of the incident to the officers on scene," police said in a statement. "The videos show the protesters taking over all lanes of traffic on Sonoma Avenue, heading eastbound. It also showed it was dark outside. In the videos, it is clear that the vehicle is approaching the crowd and you can hear several people yelling profanities at the driver. At one point, protesters surround the vehicle and the vehicle is struck by several unknown objects and a skateboard. Because the vehicles’ path was blocked by protesters, the driver tried to maneuver her way out of the crowd until her path was clear. PASADENA (CNS) - Joe Coulombe, the San Diego native who founded the Trader Joe's grocery chain and grew it from a single outlet in Pasadena to more than 500 stores in 40 states, has died following years of declining health. He was 89.Coulombe's son, Joe Jr., told reporters his father died late Friday at his home in Pasadena where he had been under hospice care."We're going to miss him a lot," his son told the Pasadena Star- News. "I think people are going to remember the wonderful Trader Joe's concept he put in place, and especially his treatment of his employees. He really cared about them."Those memories were already trending on social media early Saturday, with special note being made of Trader Joe's wages and unique, healthy foods."Trader Joe's is a model that every business should emulate," Twitter user NYGiantsfan74 posted. "The products are great, the prices are great and every ... employee is happy. I love Trader Joe's. He said Acosta had spent some time in jail, but that has not been confirmed by authorities.---------------------A 25-year-old Arizona man who was driving a San Diego-area woman's car is accused of fatally stabbing her after the vehicle veered off a freeway and crashed Friday morning.Fernando Acosta of Phoenix got out of the car and accosted a witness with a knife before repeatedly stabbing Martha Thy of Spring Valley, California, along the Loop 101 freeway in Peoria, according to an Arizona Department of Public Safety probable-cause statement released Saturday.Thy was stabbed while she was still inside the white Lexus sedan and then while on her knees on the ground outside it after she crawled out and closed a door behind her. Acosta initially was in the driver's seat when he began stabbing Thy, who was seated in the passenger seat, the statement said.He then got out of the driver's side of the vehicle, going around to the passenger's side and resuming stabbing Thy before returning to the driver's side when she attempted to get away, the statement said.Thy died at a hospital. Philip Roth, a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist who wrote about male lust, Jewish life and America, died Tuesday night at a hospital in New York.He was 85.Roth died of congestive heart failure surrounded by close friends and family, his friend Judith Thurman said.
