SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 52-year-old man was struck and gravely injured Sunday in a San Diego trailer park, and the motorist who hit him in a stolen Hummer was arrested.The incident began just after 11:10 a.m. when the San Diego police received a call from Chula Vista police who were involved in the pursuit of the stolen Hummer, SDPD Lt. Andra Brown said.The Hummer was snatched from a RoadOne impound yard in Chula Vista, SDPD Lt. Bryan Brecht told the media.The vehicle initially crashed at a gas station at 1400 Melrose Ave. in Chula Vista, but continued evading police south on Interstate 5, exiting into a trailer park at 1600 Palm Ave., Brown said.Officers tried to stop the driver but he sped away and hit the pedestrian, Brown said. It appeared the collision was intentional, Brown added.The 44-year-old driver was eventually taken into custody with help from a K-9 dog deployed to stop him, Brown said. The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being taken into custody. SALT LAKE CITY — A football game scheduled for next weekend between Brigham Young University and the Army has been postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak.The matchup was scheduled for Sept. 19 in West Point.BYU announced Saturday that a "mutual decision" was made to cancel the game after "a small number of positive COVID-19 test results and the resulting tracing exposures within the BYU football program."The conclusion was made after consulting with health officials and medical advisors."While we share the disappointment of everyone involved in the game between BYU and Army, safety as well as the physical and mental well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the opposing team is our top priority," BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe said.The teams are working to reschedule the game.BYU is the only Utah college that has not postponed its football season this year.The Cougars beat the Navy Midshipmen 55-3 in their opening game Monday and will face the Troy Trojans on Sept. 26 at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo.Army defeated Louisiana-Mornore 37-7 on Saturday to improve to 2-0.This story was originally published by Spencer Burt on KSTU in Salt Lake City. 1184

SAN DIEGO — Among the safety measures schools are now employing is a device invented by a retired San Diego teacher that was never designed for the use.Rick Morris taught elementary school for three decades before leaving to focus on books to help educators with inventions.In 2005, Morris designed the Lock Blok, an updated version of a device he invented in the 80s. Applied with an adhesive, a rubber tab is affixed to the door and can be pushed out, again acting like a stopper. It was designed to cut down on noisy door slams in class.Morris said after the Columbine shooting, schools started using the Lock Blok for safety.  Most class doors have to be locked from the outside. With Morris' invention, teachers could just keep the door locked all day, even with the Lock Blok engaged. In an active shooter situation, the tab is pulled back, while the door shuts and is automatically locked.Security experts tell us during a true emergency, fine motor reflexes becomes tested. If a teacher has to go outside and try to lock the door with a key, it could take precious seconds.  Over the years, some 8000 Lock Blok units have been installed by local schools.  "My reaction is if this is helping to make a campus more secure, good for you, but don't put all your hope in one device. Security is bigger than that," said Morris.Morris doesn't market Lock Blok as a safety measure because it wasn't designed for protection, but after a November shooting rampage at a Northern California school, he can't forget the call he got from that district's superintendent."My wife and I teared up on that one ... Kom got stuck in the elevator for more than an hour before fire rescue crews got her out.But she finally sees some help on the way - in the new stimulus package.“As long as they do their best and it's moral and the funding goes to the small businesses that really need it, and loopholes aren’t exploited, then that's the best that we can hope for,” she said.The first round did not go smoothly. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 16-year-old girl and 11 women were recovered during a two-day human trafficking operation in San Diego County that also resulted in the arrests of five men and a woman on a variety of charges, authorities announced."Operation Home for the Holidays" was conducted Monday and Tuesday and aimed at recovering juvenile victims and involved detectives from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department working undercover as sex buyers looking for online ads of suspected juveniles, according to a statement from the department.Child Welfare Services and a juvenile advocate assisted with the recovery of the teenager and the women were offered resources, the statement said.Deputies arrested five men for suspected prostitution-related violations, including one who was in possession of a gun at the time of his arrest. A woman was arrested for trafficking of a minor, the department said. It was unclear if the minor recovered was the one being trafficked by the woman."I'm proud of the great work being done by the San Diego County Human Trafficking Task Force," Sheriff Bill Gore said.
