SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A head-on collision Friday in Poway injured three people, one of them seriously injured and airlifted to a hospital.The collision occurred about 2 p.m. in the 15800 block of Poway Road, according to Sgt. David Toner of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.Upon arrival, deputies found both vehicles, Mazda coupe and a Nissan Sentra, with major front-end damage, Toner said.The investigation revealed the Mazda was eastbound on Poway Road and had drifted into the westbound lane when the collision occurred, according to the sergeant.The 25-year-old woman driving the Nissan and her 1-year-old son were taken to a hospital as a precaution, while the driver of the Mazda, a 28-year- old man, was airlifted to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, Toner said.MAP: Traffic conditions throughout San DiegoNeither alcohol nor drugs were suspected as factors in the collision, he said. 929

SAN DIEGO — A College Area nonprofit that is seeing record requests for its services may not survive the pandemic itself.Sharia's Closet provides free clothes to people who have an emergency need. Founder Shamine Linton said with the Coronavirus pandemic, the organization has already served more than 2,500 families in 2020, a record pace. "Due to unemployment, homelessness and domestic violence, our needs have grown," Linton said. Sharia's Closet, named for Linton's daughter, operates out of a former dental office near San Diego State University. It's divided into five rooms that are filled with clothes for children, teens, men and women - casual to professional. Linton said the organization gets connected to families through 54 social service organizations. While the demand is at an all-time high, the prospects of surviving past 2020 are not. "I don't think I'll have the money to continue for the next year," Linton said. Linton said the organization survives off community donations, but those have lagged in this economy. She has reduced hours for her staff of two, and the closet is now only open three days a week. The formerly manageable ,500 in monthly operating costs is now becoming daunting. "I'm hoping for financial donations to help keep our doors open, to help keep the service for the community that needs it the most," Linton said.Linton said Sharia's Closet has been able to receive public assistance for personal protective equipment, but not operations. He ended up converting his van to include a fridge, a fold out bed, lighting and uses a bucket with kitty litter for the restroom. Now a year later, he’s embraced van life and says it provides a chance to travel and save money.“It’s more freedom, but at the same time it’s more responsibility,” Allen said.Allen isn’t alone. During a weekend meet-up, around 300 vans and van-lifers packed Fiesta Island in California to explore each other's vans, and discuss life on the road.Liz Bryant, who works as a social media influencer, is living in a converted Mercedes sprinter van. She said she started living in her van for the freedom. “We don’t want to be tied down to an apartment.
