SAN CARLOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A grandmother and several children were forced to run out of a San Carlos home that burst into flames Saturday night. The fire broke out on Park Ridge Boulevard in San Carlos around 10 p.m. Saturday. Fire crews were able to stop the flames from spreading to a nearby canyon. Neighbors say they heard what sounded like explosions before they ran out and saw the home on fire. A woman was home watching her grandchildren when the house caught fire. All those inside were able to make it out safely. San Diego Fire-Rescue says it was initially challenging to battle the flames because the closest hydrants are located hundreds of feet away. “I went across the street and pounded on the door and the window to make sure that nobody was in there. Don’t think they were. There was just a lot of explosions and tires I guess blowing up. It was just In full flames when it happened,” one neighbor said. At this time, it’s unclear what caused the fire. 981

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A convicted rapist wanted in New York for violating his parole by leaving the state pleaded not guilty Monday in a San Diego courtroom to burglary charges. Dale Dulac, 57, faces charges in San Diego of auto burglary and possession of stolen property, according to the District Attorney's Office. Dulac is being held on 0,000 bail for the San Diego charges, said George Modlin, deputy district attorney. But he also remains jailed as a fugitive from New York, where authorities say he violated the terms of his parole on Sept. 20 by leaving the state. San Diego police arrested Dulac Friday after officers recognized him walking in the 1500 block of Imperial Avenue. New York authorities said last week that Dulac had been spotted at a San Diego bus station and in San Marcos. According to media reports out of New York, Dulac was released on parole in 2015. He served more than 20 years in prison for raping a woman in 1992. 953

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A new Google search tool will allow service members transitioning to civilian life to include their military occupational specialty code to find jobs that match their skills. The tool announced Monday is part of the tech giant's "Grow with Google" initiative aimed at helping Americans get jobs or grow their businesses. The program also is offering transitioning service members, and their spouses, computer training. In addition, when users are searching for a place on Android or iOS mobile device or in Google Maps and open a business listing, a "veteran-led" designation will let people know which businesses are owned and run by veterans. The initiatives are part of Google's plans to spend billion on nonprofit organizations helping to raise education levels around the world. 808

SAN DIEGO — The banner atop North Park’s Rudford’s Restaurant reads, “Stand up small business.”The word defy is written just below.Defy is exactly what father-and-son team Jeff and Nicholas Kacha planned to do over the weekend - until the community got word. They planned to continue serving food indoors even though the county on Saturday moved into the state’s most strict tier of coronavirus restrictions - the purple tier. But they were faced with threats of broken windows, picketing and lost customers.“It's been a nightmare that just keeps getting worse,” Jeff Kacha said.Redfords, which is not serving indoors, laid off 10 staffers at the news. Sales are down 40 percent. And the 60 turkeys they ordered for Thanksgiving may now not sell.Gov. Newsom says he remains concerned over the recent increase in the rate of coronavirus cases. The state on Monday moved 41 of the state's 58 counties into the purple tier. And even restaurants that look full outside say it hurts. At Puesto in La Jolla, the patio was busy all weekend, but co-founder Eric Adler wasn't celebrating“It looked full and it was full but that still translates to reduced revenue of around 30 percent for us,” he said. But other businesses weren't hit as hard.Point Loma Sports Club already had the bulk of its equipment outside under tents from earlier in the outbreak. When the county entered the purple tier, general manager Bryan Welch moved even more out for the members.“We may do this again two more times, four more times,” he said. "We're trying not to be shocked by it, we're just trying to adapt, and if you can adapt, we just feel like we can thrive.”The challenges, however, could grow as the weather cools into the winter months. 1724
