SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person is dead after being hit and killed by an unknown vehicle in Clairemont on Sunday night.San Diego Police say the pedestrian was in the 4100 block of Ashford St. near Marlesta Dr. when they were hit by a vehicle just after 8 p.m.The vehicle fled the scene. Police are looking for a dark gray or black Dodge pick-up truck. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Padres all-star pitcher Kirby Yates will be out of his comfort zone Sunday night when he and his wife, Ashlee, host a night of stand-up comedy. The event will raise money and awareness for a cause very close to the Yates' heart: Epilepsy.One night in 2018, the couple was asleep when Kirby heard Ashlee begin making strange sounds. It went from that to a seizure. She was pregnant with their second child at the time."It's the first time I'd ever been involved in anything like that," Yates told 10News. "It's hard to see your wife, she's pregnant with our son, and you have feelings that you've never had before.""He was definitely terrified," Ashlee said. "I obviously don't remember it, but I just know he had a very hard time with that."After a myriad of tests, Ashlee was shocked to be diagnosed with epilepsy. "I didn't know it was random and can come at any time or age," she recalls.When searching for ways to cope with the diagnosis, Ashlee turned to one of her favorite things: Stand-up comedy. She had performed at clubs before, but began integrating humor about her condition into her act. "That was actually my outlet. As soon as this happened, that was the first thing I did. I was like, I need to do something drastic to deal with this and I don't know what those options are," Ashlee said. "I like to make people laugh. I like to have fun, so this seemed like a good fit."That led to the decision to host "Comedy for a Cause", which will take place Sunday night at the American Comedy Co. in the Gaslamp. Ashlee will perform with two other well-known San Diego comedians. Kirby and several of the biggest Padres stars will be in the crowd. They also will likely be the biggest targets for the comics' humor, "I know they're big Padres fans, so I'm sure they've been following the season and have some good jokes," Ashlee said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - North Park business owners are pushing back against Mayor Kevin Faulconer's recent decision to remove upwards of 400 parking spots from 30th Street.The extra space would make way for protected bike lanes from Howard to Juniper, helping the city achieve climate action goals. "Eliminating all of the parking I think will effectively destroy some of the businesses that are here," Said Lara Worm, who owns Bivouac Ciderworks on 30th Street. In a May 16 memo, Faulconer said the decision would bring new mobility choices into the neighborhood and help with a dangerous situation for bicyclists and riders of dockless scooters.RELATED: Hundreds of parking spaces in North Park could be replaced with protected bike lanesThe plan calls for removing about 420 parking spaces and instead installing bollards that block off bike lanes, much like what is currently on J Street in downtown. The North Park Main Street Association is now calling on the mayor to opt for an alternative that would keep about 200 spots on 30th, and protect bikes with parked cars as the barrier. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person is dead and another person is facing life-threatening injuries after a pair of separate crashes involving Bird scooters Friday and Saturday.The first incident happened just before 9 p.m. Friday in Hillcrest. San Diego Police said a 42-year-old woman had been riding westbound in the 1200 block of University Ave. in a bike lane when, for unknown reasons, she overturned while on her Bird scooter and hit her head.The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say the woman was not wearing a helmet and had been drinking.In the second incident, a man was riding on a Bird scooter southbound in the 1400 block of Third Ave. when he was hit from behind by a vehicle just before 4 a.m., Chula Vista Police said.26-year-old Esteban Antonio Ramon Galindo died shortly after being transported to the UC San Diego Medical Center, according to police. It's not clear whether Ramon Galindo was wearing a helmet when he was hit.Police said the driver remained at the scene and has been cooperating with police. The cause of the crash was still under investigation Saturday. Investigators did not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. 1208
