SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Alcohol giant Constellation Brands is bidding bon voyage to San Diego-born Ballast Point. The company announced Tuesday it will be selling Ballast Point Brewing Company to Chicago-based Kings & Convicts Brewing Company for an undisclosed amount. Under the terms of the sale, Kings & Convicts will acquire the Ballast Point brand and its various production facilities and brewpubs, including its Downtown Disney, Long Beach, Miramar, and Little Italy locations, and its newest brewpub in Chicago.RELATED: San Diego craft beer study shows craft brewery, economic impact growthThe new owner will also acquire Ballast Point's original homebrewing supply and tasting room in Linda Vista.Kings & Convicts said it plans to keep Ballast Point's existing workforce, or about 560 employees, and to add a sales and marketing workforce.“We’re excited to welcome the team at Ballast Point into the Kings & Convicts family,” said Brendan Watters, Kings & Convicts’ chief executive officer. “We have long admired the quality and spirit of Ballast Point’s brands and team. Ballast Point’s best-in-class brewing standards will remain unchanged, delivering the same high-quality, award-winning products the company has become known for over the years."RELATED: Museum of Beer planned to open in San Diego's East VillageThe sale is expected to close by the end of the 2020 fiscal year.Craft beer fans will remember when Constellation Brands shelled out about billion to buy Ballast Point in 2015, a move intended to position the company well in the quickly-growing craft beer market.Since the purchase, Constellation Brands CEO Bill Newlands says the craft beer market has "shifted dramatically."“Trends in the U.S. craft beer segment have shifted dramatically since our acquisition of Ballast Point,” said Newlands. “Ballast Point remains one of the most iconic craft beer brands in the country and we’re pleased to transition the business to an owner that can devote the resources needed to fuel its future success.”Newlands added that the sale allows Constellation to focus on its other brands and upcoming products, pointing specifically to a Corona-branded hard seltzer. 2205

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A stranger helped a woman through a flight from San Diego to Nashville in a random act of kindness caught on camera. Megan Schofield was on the Southwest plane and told 10News what she noticed. The flight had just started to take off when Schofield saw an elderly woman tightly clutching a young man’s arm. “Upon take-off, she mentioned she hadn't flown in 15 years and she was scared, and she said to the gentleman “Take my hand”, and he grabbed her hand,” Schofield said. Schofield discovered the woman was 96 years old and flying to celebrate her birthday with family across the country. “Seeing that, I told the gentleman I would want somebody to treat my grandmother the way you treated her.” Schofield posted the moment on Facebook, where it went viral. “Sometimes we're just so caught up in the hustle and bustle that we don't always see who needs help.” The man in the photo, identified only as Ben, emailed Schofield, saying he was happy such a simple moment could be so important to so many people. Schofield was inspired to pay it forward. “Yesterday on my flight home, a lady about the age of my mom… I could tell she was a little bit worried. She said “I don't fly, I drive” so I walked her to her gate and she gave me a big hug.” The elderly woman who received help from the young man is named Virginia, but we don’t know her exact identity. She was on her way to Kansas City. If you know her, email us at tips@10news.com. 1463

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A second lawsuit has been filed by family members of a mother and daughter killed by a YouTube star in a deadly wrong-way crash last year.18-year-old Trevor Heitmann, known as McSkillet on YouTube, drove his McLaren the wrong way on I-805 in August 2018. The crash killed Aileen Pizarro and her 12-year-old daughter Aryana. This latest lawsuit was filed August 22nd by Angelo Pizarro and Arcelio Garcia. Pizarro is one of the sons of Aileen Pizarro. Garcia is the father of Aryana. A lawsuit earlier this summer was filed by Aileen Pizarro's other son, Dominic, and her father. The lawsuit claims wrongful death and negligence by the City of San Diego and the County of San Diego. The family is also suing Heitmann’s estate. It states that San Diego police received a “mental case” call that Heitmann was “screaming, paranoid and delusional and threatening to harm his mom.”Police were advised by a licensed psychiatrist that Heitmann needed to be “possibly placed on a 5150 mental hold,” according to court records. However, officers did not speak to or evaluate Heitmann to determine if he was a danger to himself or others. The lawsuit also states that “one or more of the Police Officers represented or implied that they were part of a San Diego County Psychiatric Emergency Team.”Team 10 reached out to both county and city officials. As of Wednesday afternoon, there was no comment regarding the lawsuit from the city. A county spokesperson said they have not seen the lawsuit yet. Cynthia Chihak, the attorney for Pizarro and Garcia, sent Team 10 a statement which reads in part:"I am privileged to represent Angelo Pizarro, the son of Aileen Pizarro, and Arcelio Garcia, the father and sole heir of twelve year old Aryana Pizarro, who were killed on August 23, 2018 when their car was struck head-on by a McLaren automobile driven by Trevor Heitmann... This family is not excusing Mr. Heitmann’ s reckless behavior, but believe this tragic loss of three lives could have been prevented if the City of San Diego has taken seriously earlier reports of his violent and dangerous behavior. The loss suffered by this young man Angelo, of his mother and sister and the loss to Mr. Garcia of his daughter can never be rectified. But with this lawsuit they hope to bring to light the inaction of the City and prevent any other family from suffering their grief."10NEWS RELATED COVERAGE:Popular YouTuber identified in wrong-way I-805 crash that killed mother, 12-year-old daughterYouTuber's parents requested psychiatric evaluation before deadly I-805 crashNeighbor says police were called to YouTuber's home the day he died in wrong-way freeway crashHow YouTuber in I-805 crash made small fortune with gaming videosSon remembers mother and sister after release of driver's autopsy in deadly 805 crash 2829
