SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dramatic video shows what happened after a liquor store owner caught thieves taking off with a pricey bottle in University City.The theft that spurred Haithem Ballo into action unfolded on in afternoon in September. Surveillance video shows two women entering Courtesy Liquor and Deli. Ballo says the two women asked about his day and browsed the store. They asked about prices, pulling out inexpensive options and put them back on the shelf.A few minutes later, one of the two grabs a 0 bottle of Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky. At the checkout, one of women is seen walking out. The other woman waits. He grabs at the bottle, in the hands of a woman in the back. With the truck on the move, he's struck in the head with the bottle. A man in the passenger seat punches him in the face, before Ballo finally jump off, allowing the truck to speed off."We work hard for this money, got a big family. It's not easy to let people steal from you," said Ballo.Ballo says the three he saw are part of a ring of at least eight thieves that have stolen pricey liquor from the Vons store next door, repeatedly for the past six months. He says the same two women were recorded stealing from Vons this weekend. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Flu-related deaths rose to 11 in San Diego County over the last week, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency. The agency reports that the latest flu death was a 51-year-old woman from North County who died on December 31. She had underlying medical conditions, health officials confirm. To date, 11 people have died locally from the flu this season – the same number as this time last year. The number of lab confirmed cases also jumped last week to over 1,600, 260 more than the previous week. “Given the high number of cases, influenza activity in the region continues to be widespread, just like it is in other parts of the nation,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “The best protection against the flu is getting vaccinated. This year’s flu vaccine matches the viruses circulating this season.”So far this season, there have been more than 5,400 lab-confirmed cases of the flu. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- For students in the 3D printing club at Westview High in Poway whose goal was never to hit the 'print' button, they've come a long way."It feels really amazing to know the 3D printing club is helping those who are in need."Victor Ku is president for Westview High's 3D printing club that started up this past year.When the club started, their mission was purely educational. They wanted to create a curriculum and teach people the basics of 3D printing because they didn't have the money to actually print anything."It can be very expensive and super confusing at first which is why we believe all these limitations shouldn’t restrict one from getting the opportunity to learn its such an amazing tool."Then when March came around, Victor said "we were back to square one. We didn’t really know what to do and we realized we need to quickly pivot towards the communities needs and in this case it was face shields or personal protective equipment."That's when the team of young and aspiring engineers got to work and finally hit 'print'."We took a small break and waited for all the design and the actual professional engineers to perfect the design before we started mass producing these face shields," Victor said.They've donated about 400 face shields to five different organizations, and are some of the youngest people to make a difference."We’ve distributed them to hospitals, hair salons and post offices to name a few. That little bit could definitely help save any lives."With things easing up, Victor said they want to widen their distribution list. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Employees at a Little Caesars franchise location in Logan Heights say their paychecks are bouncing and management is not responding to their concerns. The workers say the problems started in March, and they told 10News they've received paychecks, only to have them bounce a few days later and racking up banking fees every time. The employees 10News spoke to, from the National Avenue location, did not want to be identified. When they spoke out to supervisors, the employees claimed they were told to not to bother upper management. Other times, they said, they were left in the dark with no response. Employees identified the owner as Tony Bith, saying he owns at least a dozen Little Caesars locations throughout San Diego County.
