The unit is responsible for monitoring the countries' economic and financial situations and providing advices for the regional foreign currency reserve pool, known as Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralization (CMIM) that formally came into effect on March 24, 2010.The ASEAN+3 meeting also announced the setting up of a regional credit guarantee and investment fund with an initial grant of 700 million U.S. dollars, in an effort to promote the issuance of bond in domestic currencies within the region, Xie said.The finance ministers also agreed to create a working group to discuss future strategic fields for regional financial cooperation.

BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- China's local governments should step up efforts to close 10 million kilowatts of outdated coal-fueled power station capacity this year, Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said Friday.This year is crucial to completing the country's energy saving and emission reduction goals as set out in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (from 2006 to 2010), Li said in a letter to a national work conference held in Beijing discussing the elimination of backward production capacity.Official figures show China's unit gross domestic product (GDP) energy consumption fell 14.38 percent during the first four years of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. But efficiency has to improve if the nation is to meet the 20 percent target set for the five-year period."This move is conducive to optimizing the country's power structure, enhancing energy saving and reducing pollution," Li said.

BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese auto maker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group is ready to inject 900 million U.S. dollars operating capital into Volvo on top of the 1.8 billion U.S. dollars purchase price, Geely chairman Li Shufu said Tuesday."We should not only inject money into Volvo, but also endeavor to improve Volvo's profit-making capability," Li said at a press conference to discuss the Volvo takeover.The Zhejiang-based Geely signed a deal with Ford Motor Co. BEIJING, May 13 -- The proportion of China's GDP that goes toward wages has been shrinking for 22 consecutive years, a senior trade union official said on Wednesday.Zhang Jianguo, chief of the collective contracts department with the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), also warned that low pay, long working hours and poor working conditions for millions of workers are triggering conflicts and mass incidents, which pose a grave challenge to social stability.The proportion of the country's GDP that makes up wages and salaries peaked at 56.5 percent in 1983 and dropped to 36.7 percent in 2005, Zhang said."The proportion has not changed too much since then. In contrast, the proportion of returns on capital in GDP had risen by 20 percent during the period from 1978 to 2005," Zhang said in an interview posted on the ACFTU's website.The annual average wages of workers in urban areas had increased from 12,422 yuan (,819) in 2002 to 29,229 yuan in 2008, statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics showed.However, the gap between the rich and poor has been widening in the country and is also growing between urban and rural areas, different provinces and cities, as well as in different industries, he said.About one-quarter of respondents in the latest ACFTU survey said their incomes have not increased in the past five years, while 75.2 percent of them said that current income distribution is not fair.
