SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Metropolitan Transit System has approved a plan to convert all of the agency's 800 buses to a zero-emission fleet by 2040.The agency will send its plan to the California Air Resources Board for certification. State regulations require public transit agencies to gradually transition to all-zero emission bus fleets by 2040.MTS' plan aims to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions by about 43% over the next 19 years. The cost of the full transition is about 1 million over that same time frame. It will cost about 5 million more to acquire land and build a new facility to accommodate additional electric buses, according to MTS.A "first-in-the-nation" overhead gantry system is also included in the plans to automate charging."MTS has been testing six electric buses in revenue service over the past 10 months and we’ve been very pleased with their performance," said Sharon Cooney, MTS Chief Executive Officer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some San Diego fitness studios and hotels are getting creative by working together.F45 Training San Diego East Village and the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego are partnering to offer outdoor fitness classes this weekend.George Chmiel, the F45 studio owner, said that when they heard about the new public health orders to shut down more indoor spaces, they immediately looked for outdoor space.Meanwhile, the nearby Hard Rock Hotel San Diego has an 8,700 square foot rooftop terrace that's sitting empty. It's typically used for events and parties, but none are happening due to the pandemic. The hotel has allowed F45 to use the space without charge."Two industries that have been hurt by this current situation we're going through, are the hospitality and fitness industries," said Rana Kay, the director of communications at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego. "We feel the pain at the gyms when they were recently shut down once again.""I think it's a great collaboration of businesses that have just gotten kicked in the face to find a unique way to weather the storm and potentially grow through this," Chmiel said.Chmiel says the plan is to hold one class on Saturdays and Sundays, and two classes on the weekdays.Kay says it could also benefit their guests. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Sixteen Marines were arrested Thursday morning for their alleged involvement in various illegal activities ranging from human smuggling to drug-related offenses, according to U.S. Marine Corps officials.The unidentified Marines did not serve in support of the Southwest Border Support mission, USMC officials said."Information gained from a previous human smuggling investigation precipitated the arrests," said Maj. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Unified School District is warning parents and staff of a breach involving the personal data of students and staff.District official said in a release the breach dating back to January 2018 may have impacted the personal data of as many as 500,000 students enrolled in the district between the 2008-2009 and 2018-2019 school years.The data is believe to have been accessed by a phishing email effort, according to the district. Those staff members and parents affected have been alerted by SDUSD.Officials said investigators began looking into reports of phishing emails in October 2018. At that time, roughly 50 staff members whose accounts were compromised had security on their accounts reset immediately, according to the district. An investigation determined that unauthorized access was gained to the district’s network services, including their student database. The student database contains personal identifying information, potential health information, scheduling, and grade information.The district says it has since taken steps to prevent unauthorized access from reoccurring and to "eliminate" any continuing threat.SDUSD told 10News the breach wasn't announced until now because officials wanted to verify all their information and not compromise the investigation.“Data security has become an increasing concern for public agencies, corporations and private citizens nationwide,” Toren Allen, executive director of San Diego Unified’s Integrated Technology Department, said. “We are constantly reviewing our practices and systems in an effort to find efficiencies and to identify potential vulnerabilities.”The district recommends that anyone whose data may have been accessed to remain vigilant of their credit cards and account and contact a credit reporting agency to notify them of the breach of information.
