AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Medical Association has created a handy chart to help Americans determine how risky everyday activities are when it comes to contracting the novel coronavirus.From opening the mail to going to a bar, TMA’s COVID-19 Task Force and Committee on Infectious Diseases have ranked activities on their risk level for COVID-19.The activities are broken down into these levels: low risk, low-moderate risk, moderate risk, moderate-high risk, and high risk.TMA says the levels are based on input from the physician members of the task force and the committee, who worked from the assumption that – no matter the activity – participants were taking as many safety precautions as they can.No matter the activity, TMA says it’s best if you stay home if possible, wear a mask and maintain at least 6 feet of distance when you have to go out, and practice safe hand hygiene.TMA’s task force is made up of 15 physicians who are experts and leaders in medicine, some of whom are in direct patient care.The task force has researched and written in the neighborhood of 25 whitepapers and guidance documents to help inform Texas physicians as they battle the COVID-19 coronavirus. ATLANTA — Georgia’s top elections official says his office is investigating potential election law violations by groups working to register voters ahead of January's Senate runoffs. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger named four groups his office is specifically investigating: America Votes, Vote Forward, The New Georgia Project and Operation New Voter Registration Georgia. He says some groups are allegedly encouraging people outside the state to register to vote in January's Senate run-off election, according to The Hill. “We have opened an investigation into a group called America Votes, who is sending absentee ballot applications to people at addresses where they have not lived since 1994,” Raffensperger said Monday in announcing the investigations. America Votes responded to the accusations in a statement to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, saying they have mailed applications to those on the list of voters maintained by Raffensperger's office. The secretary is also punching back at claims that fraud has tainted the state’s presidential election. Raffensperger said dishonest actors are exploiting the emotions of many Trump supporters with fantastic claims and apparently misleading the president as well. He said during a news conference Monday that his office has 23 investigators probing 250 open cases alleging some kind of election law violation, but none of them cast doubt on the integrity of the state's election results. 1461

As the pandemic continues, homeless shelters are having to change their approach to meet the needs of families.At least one network of shelters is doing that by trying to prevent homelessness.Family Promise is the largest homeless shelter in the country. Last year, it helped 93,000 people.It provides aid to those who need housing by placing them with community partners within the interfaith community.The executive director in Arizona says the problem right now is these communities are shutting down in the pandemic.“The congregations in the last six months, five and half months, have gotten used to not hosting,” said Ted Taylor, Executive Director of Family Promise Arizona. “We have to get them back into the hosting mode because it is what makes our model work. So, the fear that is at congregations still remains. It is real and it is a very difficult start.”Family Promise says the average cost to rescue a family is ,000 and it takes as long as four months. For Family Promise, it costs ,000 and takes 43 days.While their new effort to prevent homelessness gets up and running, Family Promise says looming evictions require more community support than ever.So far, Family Promise has prevented 10 families from homelessness in Arizona. They also wanted to solidify their evolution from "a leading pet specialty retailer to a category-defining health and wellness partner" for animals and their owners."Electricity may be critical to powering your microwave, but it has no role for the average pet parent training their dog," said Petco CEO Ron Coughlin in the press release. "Shock collars have been shown to increase fear, anxiety, and stress in dogs, and we believe there's a better way – Positive Reinforcement Training."The San Diego-based company is also calling on the pet industry and consumers to join in its newly launched "Stop the Shock" online campaign that will create "responsible regulation for the retail sale of shock collars to general consumers."Along with today's announcement, Petco also launched a new look declaring itself "Petco, The Health + Wellness Co." to reflect how they've evolved into a health and wellness company."As a health and wellness company, our mission is focused on improving pet lives, and we think selling shock collars does the opposite," Coughlin said in the news release.
