(KGTV) — In-state tuition for the University of California system will not increase for the next academic year, UC President Janet Napolitano announced Wednesday.The university system says this is the seventh time in eight years tuition for California residents has not been increased.“We are optimistic about our strong partnership with the governor and the legislature and will work collectively to identify additional resources, in lieu of tuition revenues, to ensure that UC students can succeed,” said Napolitano.The estimated tuition for California residents during the 2018-19 academic year is currently about ,300 (living on campus) to ,400 (living off campus.) Proposition 21 would have allowed counties to apply rent control to housing more than 15 years old, with the exception of some single-family homes.Single-family homes owned by people with no more than two properties would have been exempt under proposition 21.Those in support say it’s the change needed to combat homelessness and keep people in their homes. (KGTV) - A proposed bill moving through California's legislature would — hopefully — eliminate fears of an awful driver's license photo.SB-1407 would allow drivers to have the ultimate say in their license photo. The bill would let drivers take up to three pictures at the Department of Motor Vehicles and then choose which one they like best.Drivers would also be allowed to have their photo taken outside of the DMV by a pre-approved photography center.RELATED: California DMVs now taking applications for Real ID driver's licenses, identification cardsWhile all of this sounds great for drivers who loathe their license photo, it could come at a cost. The bill says there would be an extra fee for each additional photo but didn't specify how much. That revenue would be put toward driver's education programs at public schools.So far, the bill has passed through the state Senate Transportation Committee Tuesday and has been referred next to the Committee on Appropriations. 1002
