(KGTV) — The owner of a juice bar says she is "completely disheartened" after her business was targeted by a burglar for the third time in several years.On Tuesday morning, owner Vianey Delacruz says her sister went to open up when she saw the broken window and trail of glass. Delacruz opened up Get Juiced on S. Escondido Blvd. about four years ago."Feeling empty, not just in your pockets but in your heart," said Delacruz.Among the stolen items: A cash register, iPads, and two tablets, totaling about ,000."Basically took everything of value we need to run our business," said Delacruz.The pain of the theft is something Delacruz has felt two other times since 2015. In the first break-in, surveillance video showed an intruder in a hoodie picked the lock, before grabbing iPads, tablets and laptops, and a cash register.In another break-in, two men removed a window screen, then climbed in and took another cash register, iPads and speakers. It's unknown if any of the burglaries are linked. The total value lost in all the burglaries is more than ,000. Delacruz does not have insurance for the business, so the loss comes out of her pocket. Federal health officials reported Thursday an additional 109 cases of cyclospora infection in an ongoing outbreak linked to McDonald's salads that began in May.The total number of laboratory-confirmed illnesses from this outbreak is now 395, according to a?statement from the US Food and Drug Administration. At least 16 of the sick individuals have been hospitalized.The cyclospora parasite causes intestinal illness in people who consumed contaminated food or water. Symptoms can begin a week or more after consuming the parasite. They include diarrhea and frequent, sometimes explosive bowel movements, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Those who are infected might also experience loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps or pain, nausea, gas and fatigue. Vomiting, headache, fever, body aches and flu-like symptoms can also occur.The illness can last a few days to a few months, and patients might feel better but then get worse again. Cyclosporiasis can be treated with antibiotics.Illnesses have been reported in 15 states: Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin. However, the patients in Connecticut, Michigan, Tennessee and Virginia bought their salads in Illinois while traveling, and the Florida patient bought the salad in Kentucky.The FDA said an unused package of a Fresh Express salad mix of romaine lettuce and carrots that had been distributed to McDonald's tested positive for the presence of Cyclospora though it was past its July 19 expiration date."Epidemiologic evidence indicates that salads purchased from McDonald's restaurants are one likely source of these infections. The investigation is ongoing, and FDA is working to determine the sources of the ingredients that were in common to the salads served at McDonald's," the CDC said in an outbreak update posted on its website Thursday.McDonald's said in a?statement on July 13 that it had removed the salad mix from it's impacted restaurants and replaced it with a different supplier.In a?recall statement?on the Fresh Express website, the company said it had launched a "precautionary recall" of the institutional food service product on July 27 of a "limited number of cases."The statement said, "Fresh Express follows rigid food safety requirements and preventive controls throughout our supply chain that are carefully designed to mitigate against potential health risks."The company's salad mix recall was connected with a?public health alert issued Monday by the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service advising consumers that certain salad and wrap products might be contaminated with cyclospora. The products were sold by grocery stores including Kroger, Trader Joe's and Walgreens.In the alert, the USDA said the issue was discovered when Indianapolis-based food distributor Caito Foods "received notification from their lettuce supplier, Fresh Express, that the chopped romaine that is used to manufacture some of their salads and wraps was being recalled."The lettuce from McDonald's that tested positive for the cyclospora parasite was in the same lot as the lettuce distributed to Caito Foods, the CDC said Wednesday. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - Sheriff's Deputies are on the lookout for the man who jumped out of the bushes and confronted an Encinitas man with a rifle. The attack happened Friday morning on Fortuna Ranch Road when the victim was in his driveway. A neighbor tells 10News the man popped out of the bushes wearing a ski mask and camouflage clothing. He then pointed a rifle at the victim, threatening to rob or shoot him.  Deputies say, somehow, the victim was able to run to his neighbor's home and call 911. The gunman got away before law enforcement arrived, but it's unclear if he ran or drove away. With the gunman still at large, some neighbors are concerned for their safety. Crime Stoppers is offering a ,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. ESCONDIDO (CNS) - A 47-year-old Escondido man was killed when he lost control of his pickup truck and slammed head-on into a car in Escondido, seriously injuring its driver, authorities said Friday.The crash happened shortly before 2:05 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Del Dios and Mount Israel roads, California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Smale said.A 47-year-old man behind the wheel of a 2006 Toyota Tundra pickup was heading eastbound at a high speed on Del Dios Road -- which was slick because of rain -- when he lost control of the pickup at a left-hand curve in the road and the truck began to spin, Smale said.The truck rotated once counterclockwise and crossed over into the opposite lane of traffic, where the front of the truck struck the front of a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek sedan with a 27-year-old woman from Encinitas behind the wheel, the officer said.The Toyota driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene, Smale said. The man's name was withheld pending family notification.The Subaru driver was taken to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, he said.Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash. 1269
