You could probably do this for other businesses.’” That is exactly what Tian did next.Tian and his team built a platform called SmallNeighborhood. It’s a site where you can order directly from local businesses. Then, Jordan decided to design the websites and ordering platforms for those small businesses for free.It's a service restaurant owner Adnan Bin-Mahfouz desperately needed.“Having less people dine in took away close to 75% of our business,” said Bin-Mahfouz.Bin-Mahfouz’s restaurant, O Yeah Chicken and More, was barely scraping by because of COVID-19. He was hoping online orders would flood in with families quarantining at home, but then realized his website was tough to use.“Most of us are operators, we’re chefs who’re really not high tech,” said Bin-Mahfouz.So, Tian revamped the website and Adnan saw sales starting to grow. “This app I see is a long-term solution. It's a partnership. You do feel with them, you are part of a group or part of family,” said Bin-Mahfouz.For every order Adnan gets, Jordan collects a fee up to 99￠ per order, a smaller fee than any other delivery app.“Right now, online ordering platforms, they take so much money that it's hard,” said Tian. “They can lose money on each order, even after the overhead costs and coupons and everything.”It’s making sure both these small businesses can stay open in a year where family owned stores are dwindling.“The small businesses, we are the main spine of the economy,” said Bin-Mahfouz. “These small, poppa mom shops, whether it's a gas station, a restaurant, a laundromat, whatever it is, you know, we are the people.”“In building up small businesses, that's what makes our cities different,” said Tian. “Because if there's only chains and national chains, then everything in town loses its flavor.”Saving the flavor each small restaurant adds to its neighborhood is a mission that means everything to Bin-Mahfouz.“As an immigrant, who moved here 30 years ago to a different country who didn't even speak the language. Now, to have somebody like Jordan, who his parents were immigrants too, so he can feel what are we going through and trying to connect all of us together to serve and give the best service to the end user, definitely is something great,” said Bin-Mahfouz.That togetherness is a beacon of hope when many are feeling alone.“Let’s help each other. NATIONAL CITY (CNS) - Authorities are offering a ,000 reward for information that could help solve the murder of an 18-year-old man killed in National City three years ago Thursday. Juan Carlos Munoz Jr. was fatally shot on Oct. 11, 2015 after a gunman walked up to his vehicle, asked Munoz Jr. and his friend where they were from and fired five shots from a handgun into the vehicle. The attack, which killed Munoz Jr. and injured the 17-year-old passenger in the car, occurred around 7:50 p.m. near 16th Street and Prospect Avenue in National City.The shooter has been described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, with a heavy build and a shaved head. He was last seen driving east on 16th Street in a four-door Nissan Altima.The ,000 reward will go to anyone with information that leads to an arrest in the case. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Grammy-winning country group The Dixie Chicks have dropped the word dixie from their name, now going by The Chicks. The group made of Martie Maguire, Natalie Maines, and Emily Strayer posted a statement on their website saying they wanted to meet "this moment."The group also acknowledged that there was an existing band in New Zealand that allowed them "to share their name." The move follows a decision by country group Lady Antebellum to change to Lady A after acknowledging the word's association to slavery. MILWAUKEE — Jacob Blake is out of the hospital and in a rehabilitation center, his attorney says.Blake was in Froedtert Hospital since Aug. 23, when Kenosha Police Officer Rusten Sheskey fired seven rounds into Blake's back.Blake's attorney declined to say when exactly Blake left the hospital, or how long he is expected to remain at the rehabilitation center. Blake's family said he had been paralyzed from the waist down. It appears his condition has improved somewhat, as he is now recovering in an unidentified rehabilitation center.Blake was initially handcuffed to his hospital bed after the shooting. Police said at the time that the handcuffs were necessary because Blake still had an outstanding warrant on him. After he posted bond and with the help of local lawmakers, the handcuffs were removed, and the police officers guarding his door left.Officer Sheskey has not been charged in the shooting. Sheskey's attorney says the officer believed at the time that Blake may have been trying to drive off with a woman's child.On August 23, Officers were initially called to a domestic incident. There, they attempted to arrest Blake on an outstanding warrant for third degree sexual assault charges. Blake tried to get into his car, when the officer fired his service gun into Blake's back.The shooting quickly became national news as protests erupted in Kenosha and across the U.S.After a few nights of demonstrations in Kenosha, a 17-year-old man opened fire on the crowd, hitting three people. Two people died and the third was taken to the hospital. The teen, Kyle Rittenhouse, was arrested at his home in Illinois and he is now facing extradition to Wisconsin and charges in the shooting deaths. MILWAUKEE -- An organization claims Catholic values are being threatened over a "Pride Prom" at Marquette University.An online petition has thousands of signatures to stop an LGBT event slated to take place Saturday at the university.University leaders say despite the opposition, the event will go on as planned.Marquette graduate Cameron Sanchez says at first, he didn't take the petition seriously."But then I went online and saw it had 18,000 signatures," he said.The petition is hosted on a website called "The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property," also known as TFP.John Ritchie, TFP Student Action Director did not consent to an on-camera interview, but sent a statement though email. Ritchie said that promoting Pride Prom, "...is like promoting drugs for those who suffer from a drug addiction.""They're hurtful, but they're not Marquette.
