MOSCOW, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Russia will carry out two unmanned test launches of Soyuz carrier rockets in the coming fall before delivering crews to the International Space Station (ISS), local media reported on Friday.Citing a source, RIA Novosti news agency said that one of the Soyuz rockets was scheduled to send a new Progress M-13M space freighter to the ISS.On Wednesday, a Progress M-12M cargo ship failed to reach the orbit after the engine of a Soyuz-U carrier rocket turned off during the ascend. Soon after the accident, Russia announced it will temporarily ground all Soyuz rockets.Due to the accident, Russian space authorities have put off Thursday's launch of a Soyuz-2 carrier rocket from the Plesetsk Space Center in northern Russia and a launch of a manned space ship from Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan.After the retirement of the U.S. shuttle fleet, Russia's Soyuz spacecrafts have become the only way for astronauts to reach the ISS until at least the middle of the decade.

The new technology is not only quicker but cheaper."Yau is one of the world's greatest mathematicians, having won the prestigious Fields Medal. He was once the dean of the department of mathematics at Harvard, and is now a professor there. He is also a visiting professor at Tsinghua University.Professor Yau and his team met professionals from Tsinghua University and Renmin University of China last week, and they discussed possible cooperation to apply the technology in making a demonstration movie using the new technology.Yau and a team started working on the new 3D technology, founded on geometrical principles, at Harvard 10 years ago.What marks it out is the extremely vivid pictures it produces.3D technology is used not only in making movies and in Internet games but in other areas , such as medicine. JIANGYIN, Jiangsu, July 1 (Xinhua) -- China's manned deep-diving submersible, the Jiaolong, embarked on a journey on Friday during which it will make a 5,000-meter dive in the Pacific Ocean.During the dive, the submersible will undergo several operational tests in which it will take photos, shoot video, survey seabeds and take samples from the ocean floor, according to Jin Jiancai, deputy director of the submersible's diving test program team.The tests will be conducted in the Pacific Ocean in accordance with a contract signed between the China Ocean Mineral Resources Research & Development Association and the International Seabed Authority (ISA).The submersible is scheduled to spend 47 days at sea, according to a statement from the Ministry of Science and Technology.A submersible differs from a submarine, as it typically depends on another vessel or facility for support.The Jiaolong, designed to reach a depth of 7,000 meters, completed 17 dives in the South China Sea between May 31 and July 18 last year, reaching 3,759 meters during its deepest dive.In the year since the submersible's last dive, program team members have made several technical improvements to the submersible and its support vessel, Jin said.Jin said the program team members are "very confident" about the test.He also stressed that the test will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea as well as the ISA's rules and regulations.The Jiaolong is the world's first manned submersible designed to reach depths of 7,000 meters below sea level, according to Xu Qinan, the submersible's chief designer.

BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- A Connecticut woman who was savagely attacked by a pet chimpanzee and had her face deformed in 2009 was shown on TV with a new face Thursday.TV pictures revealed Charla Nash’s new nose, lips and eyelid, which were transplanted in May by doctors at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.Nash said to the viewers that she can move her mouth, smile and smell. Her daughter Brianna added that her mother can even talk and eat better now.Dr. Bohdan Pomanhac led a 30-member surgical team to complete the face transplant in 20 hours. The team also transplanted two hands but these were later removed due to blood flow problem when Nash suffered pneumonia.Nash’s friend Sandra Herold owned a 15-year-old chimpanzee named Travis that attacked without any provocation when Nash was visiting Herold.Travis simply went berserk and could not be stopped even after Herold stabbed it with a kitchen knife. It would only let go of Nash after the police arrived and shot it dead.
