BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- In an unexceptional courtyard on the street behind Jingshan Hill in central Beijing, two Chinese pines stand side by side.     This was the residence of Zhuo Lin, widow of China's late leader Deng Xiaoping. On Wednesday, she passed away, aged 93. Deng was also 93 when he died 12 years ago.     To complete the last trip with her beloved husband, Zhuo chose to have her ashes scattered at sea as her husband's were. BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee hosted a symposium here Saturday to solicit advice and suggestions from outside the Party on its document concerning strengthening and improving Party building.     Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, briefed the participants on how the document of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee was weighed and finally formed. He asked them to freely voice their opinions on revising the document.     Chairmen of the central committees of eight non-communist parties and personages without party affiliation like Health Minister Chen Zhu offered their suggestions on issues including strengthening the intra-Party democracy, fighting corruption and improving the leadership style.     "The suggestions are valuable and insightful," said Hu. "They are a reflection of the close cooperative relations between the CPC and the non-communist parties."     "We will study them and try to learn from them," he said.     Hu said that being a ruling party in a country with a population of more than 1.3 billion, the CPC is shouldering an arduous task. The CPC will stick to the principle that the Party exercises self-discipline and is strict with its members. It will strengthen Party building and improve its art of leadership and governance.     Hu stressed that the CPC will work hard to enhance its abilities of resisting corruption, guarding against degeneration and warding off risks.     Members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau Jia Qinglin, Xi Jinping and He Guoqiang also attended the symposium.     The Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee, which was concluded Friday, endorsed the decision of the CPC Central Committee on major issues on strengthening and improving Party building under the new circumstances.     A communique issued upon the closing of the four-day plenum vowed to "expand intra-Party democracy to develop people's democracy" and resolutely fight corruption." It also acknowledged that quite a few problems existed inside the Party that ran counter to new circumstances and to the Party's nature.

ISTANBUL, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- China on Sunday demanded an increase of the quota share of the emerging markets and developing countries in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and urged the organization to accelerate its structural reform. Chinese Deputy Governor of the Central Bank Yi Gang made the remarks at the 20th meeting of the International Monetary and Financial Committee of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund in Istanbul.     The one-day meeting was attended by representatives from 186 member countries and international financial institutions, the World Bank, the World Trade Organization and other organizations.     The Chinese deputy governor criticized major international financial institution for failing to give a timely early warning report of the current global financial crisis, noting that the failure is closely related to deviation of the surveillance direction and its focus.     The long-time underestimation of the quota share of the emerging markets and developing countries and their insufficient representation in the IMF are major causes for irrational governing structure, unfair surveillance and untimely early warning system, he said. Attendees take part in the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) meeting at the Istanbul Congress Center October 4, 2009. The IMFC has 24 members who advise and report to the IMF Board of Governors. Finance ministers and central bankers from around the globe are in Istanbul for the semiannual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, which run from Oct. 4-7.    He said China supports an increase of IMF structural resources in various ways.     But he stressed that the quota share is the main resource of the IMF organization, urging the IMF to establish quota share automatic readjusting mechanism in a bid to reflect changes of economic positions of different countries.     China supports the IMF to undergo wide-ranging administrative structural reform, including the strengthening of responsibilities of the executive board of directors, effective supervision of the administration, reform of chairman election system and increasing the proportion of administrative and working staff of emerging markets and developing countries, he added.     Yi stressed that the IMF should strengthen supervision and surveillance over various major financial markets, synthetically think about various policies of member countries, and not to assess single policy in a simple and mechanical way.     He said China welcomes the progress made by the IMF in enhancing early warning capability, the whole package reform in financing mechanism to offer loan to low-income countries and preferential financing measures.     Istanbul is to host the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank on Oct. 6-7.

It is one of the 100 universities to which the Chinese government attaches top priority in the 21st Century.     Noting that finance is an important state function, and the core of modern economy, Liu expected the university to play a better role in cultivating innovation-oriented financial talents.     She also called on the university to contribute more to the national and local development programs.

PYONGYANG, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), met with Dai Bingguo, Chinese state councilor and special envoy of Chinese President Hu Jintao, here Thursday to discuss relations between their two countries.     Kim asked Dai to convey his greetings to his Chinese counterpart, Wu Bangguo, and offered congratulations on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.     Kim expressed his wish that the Chinese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, will continue the country's modernization drive.     Kim reiterated that it is the unshakable stand of the Worker's Party of Korea and the DPRK government to consolidate and further promote the traditional DPRK-China friendship.     He said the DPRK side would work with the Chinese side to push forward DPRK-China relations.     Dai conveyed Wu Bangguo's greetings, saying the Chinese government and the Chinese people treasured the friendship with the DPRK, and would strengthen the exchange and cooperation with the DPRK side to write together a new chapter of the friendship.     This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries and has been named the Year of China-DPRK Friendship.     After the meeting, Dai and Kim watched the debut of the opera, "The Dream of the Red Chamber" at the Pyongyang Grand Theater. The opera, based on a Chinese classic, was staged first in the 1960s under the initiative and instruction of late DPRK president Kim IlSung.     The opera has been renovated and re-staged as a major event in the Year of China-DPRK Friendship. DPRK top leader Kim Jong Il has taken a strong interest in its development and has watched a rehearsal.
