BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's railways carried 60.75 million passengers nationwide around the seven days of National Day holidays and one day of Mid-Autumn Festival, the Ministry of Railways said on Friday.     The figure was 2.18 million more or 3.7 percent up from the same period last year, according to the ministry.     The peak transport season lasted for eleven days from Sept. 28 to Oct. 8. NAIROBI, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- A visiting Chinese Tibetologist delegation on Wednesday gave Kenyan lawmakers an insight into Tibet and its issues.     Shes-rab-nyi-ma, vice president of China's Central University for Nationalities and head of the Chinese delegation, introduced the basic facts of Tibet, the origin of the "Tibetan issue," the efforts the Chinese government has taken to develop the local economy and to protect the indigenous language and culture, and the system of regional autonomy for ethnic minorities in China.     Legislator Ahmed Shakeel Shabeer said many Kenyan lawmakers didn't know much about Tibet before and most of them had been influenced by western media on the Tibetan issue due to their British-style education. BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Prosecutors have approved the arrest of four employees of the Anglo-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto Ltd. on charges of trade secrets infringement and bribery, according to a statement of China's Supreme People's Procuratorate late Tuesday. Preliminary investigations have showed that the four employees, Stern Hu, Liu Caikui, Ge Minqiang and Wang Yong, had obtained commercial secrets of China's steel and iron industry through improper means, which had violated the country's Criminal Law, according to the statement.     Prosecution authorities also found evidence to prove that they were involved in commercial bribery. Four employees of the Anglo-Australian miner Rio Tinto Ltd. have been arrested over alleged stealing of China's state secrets, including Stern Hu, general manager of the company's Shanghai offic. The four people, including Hu, had been detained by China's security authorities Sunday evening    Investigations have also revealed that there were suspects in China's steel and iron enterprises who were providing commercial secrets for them.     The four were detained in Shanghai in early July on charges of stealing China's state secrets.          Stern Hu, an Australian citizen of Chinese origin, was general manager of the company's Shanghai office and was in charge of the iron ore business in China.     Hu was a long-standing employee of Rio Tinto and had lived in Shanghai for a number of years with his wife, who is also an Australian citizen.     The other three, who also worked in the Shanghai office, are Chinese employees of the company.

BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin has called for deep recognition of the historic necessity and enormous advantages of China's political system of multiparty cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).     The natural difference between the political systems of China and the West must be deeply recognized, said Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau at Thursday's meeting of the presidium of the CPPCC National Committee. BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's consumer price index (CPI) decline pace would slow down in the second half and the CPI would drop about 0.5 percent for the whole year, Lian Ping, chief economist of Bank of Communications, the country's fifth largest lender, told Xinhua Sunday. China's CPI, a main gauge of inflation, dipped 1.1 percent in the first half from a year earlier, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) figures. China's consumer price index (CPI) decline pace would slow down in the second half and the CPI would drop about 0.5 percent for the whole year, Lian Ping, chief economist of Bank of Communications, the country's fifth largest lender, told Xinhua Sunday    "China might see a CPI rise in the fourth quarter along with the recovery of the economy," Lian said.     He predicted that China would see a moderate CPI rise next year, with the growth pace less than 4 percent.     The Shanghai-based bank said in a Saturday report that China's economy would continue to recover from the world financial crisis in the second half and expand at the rate of 8.5 percent for the whole year.
