BOCA RATON, Fla. - A young girl with a big heart and a love of music recently started a charity event to raise money in the fight against Parkinson's disease.Music has been a part of 11-year-old Kasey Moore's life since she picked up a violin at the age of three."I enjoyed it more and more as I grew older," Kasey said.Now, she is practicing playing the piano every day."When I practice, some part inside of me gets alive," Kasey said.Because of the pandemic, she's been able to dedicate more time to her musical passion while at home with her family.Her father, Dr. Henry Moore, is a neurologist at the University of Miami who specializes in movement disorders like Parkinson's disease."He helps people that suffer from this terrible disease called Parkinson's, and this disease affects their brain," Kasey said. Moore has been spending more time working from his home office, which gave Kasey a chance to feed her curiosity while her dad cared for patients."She was very moved by people, how they were very disabled, and then with the medication, they were super happy and so hopeful that this disease will stop," Moore said."It really touched my heart, and I wanted to do something to help, but I wasn't sure how," Kasey said.She decided to do her part to fight Parkinson's disease by creating a fundraiser called "Parkin-Song." The goal is to use music to raise money and awareness on behalf of the Parkinson's Foundation."The way we always have raised her is to think first [about] others, and that will give you happiness," said Kasey's mother.Kasey's music and kind heart quickly got the attention of some big names, including Gloria Estefan. Her father said she's onto something with the healing power of music."There is music therapy even tested for Parkinson's disease patients, and it helps a lot. BONITA (CNS) - A 51-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured Thursday in a collision with a cement-mixer truck near Chula Vista Golf Course.The man was riding west on Sweetwater Road in Bonita shortly before 9:30 a.m. when the driver of the construction vehicle, heading the same direction, made a right turn and hit him at Briarwood Road, according to the California Highway Patrol and firefighting officials.Medics took the victim to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego for treatment of major but non-life-threatening injuries, said Dan Genevicz, a fire captain with Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Protection District.The accident forced a roughly 30-minute closure of the intersection, Genevicz said. 702

(KGTV) - The fate of a decades-old neighborhood icon in Bonita is about to be decided in court.For nearly 23 years, Nisreen Stephan and her family have been making pizza at their pizza shop, Giant Pizza King, on Central Avenue. But these days, running her business includes a slice of uncertainty. "Very stressful and very sad," said Stephan.Next Monday, Stephan and her husband will head to court. Their landlord, Alcott Estates, L.P., says their lease has expired, but the Stephans argue they exercised an extension that gives them another 2 years. Stephan says the landlord crossed out the extension option on their lease without their approval."They should honor the rest of the lease," said Stephan.The landlord's plan: to replace their business with a drive-thru Starbucks. Right now, less than 200 feet away, is a Starbucks in the same shopping plaza. That Starbucks would reportedly be replaced by parking."This is our retirement, our nest egg ... I love Bonita. It's like a part of the family. I want to serve as along as I can," said Stephan."This place is like second home. It's the best and it has to stay," said longtime customer Mike Troy.Stephan says it they are forced to close, she's hopeful of opening at another site in Bonita. For the last 23 years, the Stephan family has operated the restaurant at the location. Several months ago, they learned their landlord wouldn’t renew their lease, replacing the pizza shop with a Starbucks. “I cannot believe it anyways; my last day is just so hard because I’m here every day, seven days a week,” said Nisreen Stephan, whose customers call her Nancy. After she makes her last pizza, Nancy says she’ll take some much needed time off and always cherish the memories she made at the shop. Nancy says she isn’t sure if Giant Pizza King will reopen in another location. If she decides to reopen the restaurant, she says she’ll make sure to let everyone know. 792
